65 VS. 72 Shaft Weight

Thread Starter

I have read around on some other posts about shaft weights and what not and understand the idea behind the different weights. I went into golfsmith when I was in Orlando playing Bay Hill this weekend and I tried out a titleist 910D2. I am ready to upgrade my driver since I am playing an old R5 and am losing distancee due to 10.5 and R flex. I am looking at getting a stiff flex but dont know if should go with the 65 or 72 gram shaft. My club head speed is averaging right around 100-105 MPH and the spin I was getting with the 910&913 were right under 2000. I cannot remember the weight on the shaft I was hitting. What do yall recommend.

Titleist gives the golf shops quality fitting carts so you can mix and match the heads and shafts.

I recommend you get on the launch monitor and try out different head + shaft combinations. And, take notes on what you find (get the printout).

Note that shaft weight is only one factor. You also have shaft flex, kick point (does it tend to launch the ball low, mid, or high), and torque. And, what clubhead speed do you get with different head + shaft combos?

You might get on the Ralph Maltby site http://www.ralphmaltby.com/ and read up on the different factors involved in shaft fitting.

Also consider what ball you use.
