I've been Playing Golf for: 10 months (July 2012, I started.) My current handicap index or average score is: 120 average score. My typical ball flight is: Fade at the moment. Inconsistent. The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Fat, Thin and Topped shots. I don't yet have one consistent ball flight miss. First video is from the first month I played, last July. Second video is a driver swing from late last year. Third video is from tonight. Recently I have been working on eliminating tension and too many thoughts from my swing. Also, this evening, (third video) I focused on keeping my left arm straight through impact. Let me have it!! I have decently thick skin, and nowhere to go from here but up! Thanks!

I guess those old videos are gone now.

Here are my newest swings. A couple of 6i and a couple of drivers.

Apologies for the poor lighting and angles. I’m still trying to figure out how to film at my range.

I’ve recently updated my grip and my stance, each in accordance with the threads that Mike posted in the ‘instructional content’ sticky thread.

I believe I’m getting much better contact overall, and my big miss has gone from a pull hook/push slice to an over-fade/pull slice. My good shots are now pull fades or straight, while they were straight or straight draws before.

A couple things that stood out to me when looking at these videos myself was how steep and how far past parallel I am going with all clubs. While I feel fine doing these things, and seem to be getting decent results overall, I seem to think that my swing looks wildly out of control.

Any suggestions or comments are appreciated.

These were consecutive swings with 6i this morning. Trying to get the hands deeper, and to come down less steeply than the swings in my previous post. I felt like I hung back on the first one and slapped at it, sending it low and left. The second and third ones had better results and felt better. I’m still pretty steep, but I think my downswing move has improved just a bit. I don’t feel like I’m ‘chopping wood’ straight down at the ball as much.

Thanks for the look! As always, I appreciate any and all comments and critiques!

You can't gain hand depth with no hip turn. Try to feel like your hips turn and your arms don't move as early in the swing.

Also, you stand too upright. Try to get into a more athletic stance.

Have been working on you guys’ suggestions, specifically tried:

1) Standing a bit more ‘athletically’ with just a bit more knee flex.

Feels like I’m more ‘ready to hit’ if that makes any sense?

2)  Adding backswing hip turn.

Still not much there. I’m having trouble consistently turning my hips without swaying. One out of every 2 or 3 swings where I actively turn my hips back will not have me swaying. And contact is... iffy at best with the hips turning well. If I focus only on my hips, or go slowly, I can do it. But not at speed or with any other swing thoughts. Definitely a long road ahead on hip turn.

3) Continuing to shallow out/flatten my backswing and especially my downswing planes.

Since my hips can’t seem to get in gear yet, I’m doing this with my arms mostly.

In the picture, I’ve compared a swing from today (bottom) with one from my last post (top). Red is address shaft plane, green is obviously the shaft at about the same point in the downswing.

I think I’m on the right track. I’m definitley not ‘chopping wood’ so badly anymore, and on some of my swings, like this one, my club points straight down the line at the top of the BS and not across the line anymore. Some swings I’m still across the line though.

This is going to be a long process. I can tell because to get the little bit of change I have here, I feel like I am actively manipulating the club in the backswing and downswing QUITE a bit. I’m trying to get the club laid off a bit, and It feels like I’m swinging the club almost totally horizontally from address.

Obviously I’m barely making a change!

Feel ain’t real indeed..

Thanks for the look!

Still a lot more work to do here:

Gotcha.

More like this, perhaps?

Found it noticeably easier to turn from this setup position, though I still don’t think I was turning enough or consistently on each swing.

Also hit many more good shots than usual during this session. This new setup will take getting used to, but I’m encouraged by the results so far.

Yes. Let the arms hang a bit more, and you're right there.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
