Maltby forged TE irons
TheSandTrap.com Top Picks
Titleist have some compact irons, I don't know side by side but I find the toplines to be pretty thin and the cavity isn't visible on any of them. There's very little offset, which I like, and good turf interaction.
They are pretty forgiving on thin hits, very accurate and feel great on pure hits. I really like the traditional lofts and even bent the PW to 48, and I can hit the 3 iron very nicely.
I highly recommend them if you're looking for a good component head. I got KBS C tapers in mine and had them assembled for 80$ an iron, but the shaft and grip I picked would cost upwards of $1,000 from Mizuno or Titleist. They really work nicely for me and I have no desire to change irons. I like the way the company sets up so you can have any specs and components you want, it really saves money over custom ordering from other companies if you know what you want.
I've ordered the components to build a 7 iron TE. If I like it over my current RAZRX's, I'll consider building a full set.
Since I haven't been able to hit balls outside for quite some time now, this $75 purchase at least has me looking forward to something golf related /:
While the clubs are 2* or 3* weaker than my RAXRX's, I hit them about the same distance. I think part of that is the fact that I got fitted for shafts, as opposed to the uniflex shaft that the Callaway's have. While hitting the same carry distances, I hit the ball much higher and am finding that I can hold greens much better now. Off center hits are about as forgiving as my other clubs. Center hits, though, feel really good!! You can tell when you've hit the center of the club face. The other thing that I've found is that it's much easier to work these clubs. I struggled to change my ball flight with the RAZRX's. With the TE's, I now have a bit of confidence that I can shape the ball when I need to. I guess that's a product of having thinner soles...
I've played 8 official rounds so far this year, and 5 of them have/will be counting toward my handicap. I hope that is because I've improved my swing, but can't discount that maybe a part of it is a result of these clubs. Whatever it is, I can say that I have total confidence in the TE's. It was a whim to look at a component brand, but I am really glad I did. I saved money and have clubs that perform really well!
