Hi, I'm new here and to the sport.

I just picked up a used set of Nike Slingshot irons with graphite shafts. I decided on these as my first set because I was able to purchase for under 300 bucks. 3pw model. I'm hoping these clubs will serve me well during my initial learning process. I am interested to see if anyone else is happy or unhappy with these irons.

I don't know if I can ask this question in this sub forum, but I'll give it a shot. Is it important to use the same instructor all the time, or would it be better to work with 2-3 different Pros to improve my game.

start with one pro, coz they al have different ways to instruct and you could get confused.

I sometimes go to another pro, coz maybe he sees something mine does not see. My pro approves that i sometimes go to someone else.

I can see the benefit of going to more than one pro. Each may have a different area of expertise, full swing, short game, putting etc. But I would recommend that you only work on one thing at a time. Golf is hard enough when you are working on one thing let alone two or three.

Thanks for the replies. I wanna so bad go buy a very good set of clubs. I have no prob spending 2k, but me being new to the game I just thought I would bang these up a bit (slingshots, graphite)

With the depreciation that occurs on golf clubs by the time I was better prepared to "use" a better club, and because I want to get the latest great thing out in the marketplace, the good ones I buy now, may not be the ones I desire at a later date.

Slingshots were rated #1 iron by Golf Digest in 2005(I think it was 05). Just because you bought them used doesnt mean you didnt get a good set.

As far as going to multiple teachers, I think when you are new to the game of golf, it is more important that you visit different teaching pros until you find one that you like and stick with them. They all have different teaching methods, and some may work for you while others will not. Finding a pro that melds with your style and game may be more difficult that actually learning to play this game.

Slingshots are an amazing game-improvement club: you will be able to get those in the air very easily, you will hit them straight, and it is very hard to hit a bad shot with them.

Good luck with the game, man.

Yeah, hope I like them. They should arrive via FedEx very soon. The person I got them from says he only played two rounds with them. Kinda sounds like a guy selling a new C6 ZO6 with 500 miles on it that says he never drove it hard, Ha ha ha. Anyways will see, I will have to work with what I got. From what I have read they seem to a decent club.

How do I find golfers around my area to go onto a course with, anyone here in Delaware?

My next post will be on bag suggestions. (used)

You don't have to find partners beforehand, you can just show up at the course a single and get paired with people there. I personally prefer this way, to get to meet new people.

Playing with guys you know is good too.

Take time to go to the driving range . That is one place where you can hit balls and understand how and why your shots fly . After which try to see who the local pro is at the range . Secure his services for a starter course and practice what ever he preaches . Almost all Pros teach the fundamentals and there is not much difference from one who charges an arm and leg to one who just wants to make a decent living and share his knowledge . For sure you will start with the grip then the stance then the swing . Kindergarten stuff but very important .

When I lived in Western Chicago burbs, I played a lot of golf at public courses, most of the time as a single golfer since most of my golf buddies lived too far away. I must have met 1000 golfers this way. 950 of them were nice , fun people. I also have played at private clubs for a dozen years and again, 95% of golfers are nice and fun people. May be it is the nice surroundings, away from daily chores and worries etc but everyone is out there to have fun. The other 5% get all bent out of shape and angry if they hit bad shots, and that can ruin the fun part.
