Hi first post, been stopped playing really for the past 8 years though did play for a year in the middle,so looking to get back into the golf, currently have a set of Nike slingshot irons which i like, but the driver 3wood and 5 wood are callaway big bertha 460s, really didnt like them last time i played found they seemed to make the ball go way high and reduced the yardage, been thinking on a Ping K15 but are there any others i should try out?

Thanks in advance

Welcome to TST.

I'm sure that you will find many reviews for newer drivers, as well as swing advice. Hitting the ball too high can be due to many things including putting too much spin on the ball with a severely negative AoA. You might consider posting a swing for some of the experts to analyze.

Again, welcome.

Lord, there are tons of clubs out there to try. My friend has a K15 and really likes it. If your budget is limited, try drivers that are a year or two old. There are great deals out there now that new models are coming out. If budget is not a problem try the Ping G30s, Cobra FlyZ, SLDRs, etc., etc.

If you are taking lessons ask your pro what he or she would recommend.

Good luck, and enjoy the search that is half the fun of buying new clubs

Consider a fitting - that high ball flight could result from shafts that don't fit your swing.

I suggest the older TM R11s. You can find those on eBay and Taylormadepreowned.com for much less than new clubs cost, and it remains a very effective model.

Gambling is illegal at Bushwood sir, and I never slice.

    • Ah, got it.  Yeah I'd just play it for bogey. Even as a low handicap I wouldn't be all that upset with a bogey on that hole.
    • Haha I made a I typo. I was thinking two things at once, ‘I don’t think bogey is a bad score’ and ‘I think bogey is a great score’. But I mixed them up and said the opposite
    • How isn't bogey a great score? As a 20 handicap every single time you make a bogey you are playing better than expected. Because if you bogeyed every hole you'd most likely be lower than a 20. You're a high handicap playing a hole that is lined with hazards the entire length of it on both sides.  Bogey is a very solid score for you on that hole.  From 300yds off the tee PGA tour players average 3.71 strokes to hole out. As a high handicap you are going to be more than 1 full stroke higher than that, probably closer to 2 full strokes higher.  If you had 100 different 20 handicaps play that hole I would bet a lot of money that the scoring average is greater than 5.0 Sometimes courses have really hard holes. Play for your bogey, be ecstatic about a par, and do everything possible to minimize double bogey.

    • I don’t think bogey is a great score here. Will try the 7i - 7i approach. If I’m short, I think I can get out of the bunker and if I’m on the right I can chip up.
