My swing has changed dramatically over the past 2 months after lessons and my ball goes on a high trajectory with less roll. It seems like the ball floats forever in the air and I can't seem to get anymore distance. I talked to my pro and he says that maybe I should look into bending my irons a degree or two after looking at my distance gaps. I don't feel like lifting weights to gain more distance so am looking for a second opinion on this idea. Would bending my irons possibly lead to a more direct ball flight trajectory?...leading to more distance? I currently hit my 6-iron about 155-160 and have seen uglier swings go a lot farther.

Pings normally have pretty strong lofts - i find it a little strange that after the lessons you are now hitting it shorter !!! Do you have other things to work on to bring the flight down - are you still taking the lessons and are still undergoing changes i mean ? ie: Is the flight likely to come down in the future ?

Roughly 4 degree gaps between clubs in the middle irons - so bending them 2 degrees would probably give you 1/2 a club more distance per club: Ie 5-7 yards i guess.

The only thing youve got to watch out for is the change in bounce angles on the shorter irons,PW and SW in particular.

You could of course get the lofts graduated across the set to incorperate a bigger change in the long irons, moving through to a couple of degrees in the middle irons and then maybe just one degree in the short irons.

For me, I think cobra has the stong lofts. try hitting a set and see if your flight doesn't come down.

Also you didn't mention what flex your shafts are. Try a high kick point shaft in stiff flex.

Cobra's have strong lofts yes - but then most of the cavity backed sets have plenty of weight at the bottom - the early PW's had 42 degrees of loft i believe !!! They are a pretty long club but still hit it very high - kinda like a "rainbow" flight.....they may help though.

High kick point shaft is a great point though - designed to get the head "lagging" behind at impact to effectively deloft it at impact, and get a lower ball flight.Dynamic golds have a very high flex point.Perhaps try an iron with a dynamic gold in ???

So you must hit your 3 iron about 190 to 200. Seems plenty far to me.. How far do you hit your 5 wood or your hybrid? Is there a big gap between your irons and your fairway woods you need to fill? Unless there is a big gap, what difference does it make as long as you know how far you hit. High shots just mean they hit the green softer and stay more. since I took lessons I never know how far I'm going to hit. All of a sudden I guess what they were teaching me is starting to sink in because about every fourth or fifth swing I will hit the ball about 20 yards further than normal. It has gotten so I have to look at what is behind because if I aim at the green I might go over.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I am definitely not looking into buying new irons anytime soon and may look into the whole reshafting the irons. I spoke with a pro at the shop today who agreed that pings were pretty strong lofted and also added that the Ping i3s are more difficult to bend and suggested that I wait a bit and let my swing develop. He also noticed that a lot of guys who change their swing lose a bit of yardage at first but regain it.

sevenfourate: I am still taking lessons but after 3 lessons we stopped working on my swing for the most part. Now he just checks to see if I am still transferring my weight correctly which was my biggest problem - we are mostly working on my short game now.
Hig4s: I do hit the 3 hybrid on avg. about 190 and have seen it go over 200 a couple of times, but I have also seen a couple of friends who hit their 5/6 iron that far. I also have a 25-30 yard gap b/w my 3 hybrid and 3 wood. I don't have a 5 wood but may need one now after playing a round at the Air Force Academy Blue course.

Just keep plugging away.. If the pro said let your swing develop I'd go that way..

I use to hit my 7 iron 150 consistantly, the 7 iron is where I judge every other club from. Then I got lessons and it dropped to 140, I just lived with it and adjusted.. Then I bought new custom fit KZG irons and it went back to 150. I got a few more lessons and now I hit it mostly around 150 but some days around 160 and occasionally up to 190. Of course I'm always shocked when that happens because I usually need a 3 iron to go 190.

What really drives me nuts is you would think if occasionally I hit a 7 iron 190 I could occasionally hit a driver 300. Nope. longest drive ever was 275.
