If you look at the numbers, has to be the Pro V line. I like how they play and their durability. There are obviously a lot of good balls: Bridgestone, Srixon, Callaway, but based on tour use and sales (result of great marketing??) it's the Pro V.

I have a hard time paying for them, but I'm lucky that I get 3 or 4 dozen as presents for Christmas and my birthday, so it keeps me going for the season.

+1 on the Pro V.
There is no other ball like that on the planet. I play lost and found pro v's and like them better than every new ball I have tried for about 30 dollars for a dozen. That unfortunately for Titleist includes the new NXT Tour. Nothing compares to a Pro V for me.

If you've never tried it, the Callaway HX Tour (the one in the black box) is a phenomenal golf ball as well. I will typically buy Pro V1's due to habit however. I am not personally a fan of the Pro V1x only because of the reduced spin rate, I'd rather give up a bit off the tee for a bit more spin on shorter shots.

For an off the wall, Precept MC Lady, not the Laddie (which is just the lady's ball repackaged). A bunch of guys started playing it 5 or so years ago, and it is a great ball. No joke.

I'm no physics major, although I can tell you that the old Titleist Tour Balata's listed at 90 compression were more like 75-80, which is where the Precepts are thought to be. Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating that you play a ladies ball, just throwing it out there. Buy a sleeve and play a couple of holes with them and see what you think. I've played them a few times but never stuck with it. I do know a few guys however who still do and swear by them.

At any rate, it's a different reply than Titleist, which is what almost everyone will give you. Try them out!

I love the Pro V's but at $45 a dozen I just can't afford to play them since I'm 14 and don't have a job. Generally I play Srixon AD333 or Titleist NXT Tours, since they aren't too expensive and I still like the spin. If I get the money, or can convince my mom to buy them, which is generally just for tournaments, I get Srixon Z-URS's or Pro V1's

Here's what I play:

Oh, I do hate to jump on such a fat bandwagon, but how can one ignore the ProV1? Well, I suppose one could suggest the other premium balls such as those by Callaway, Nike, TaylorMade, Srixon, et al. But if we're to accept the verdict of the marketplace, wouldn't the victor be the ProV1? More golfers seem to buy these than any other ball, including and especially those for whom this ball may not be the most appropriate. Not me, though. I can get around so much easier with the weight of a little more money in my pockets. If my pants get too light from lack of dinero, then who knows, there just might be an embarrasing moment on the backside of a green. Well, a less expensive ball for me........but, if I find a ProV1 on the course, I uh, ah, I may just have to put it into play.

thanks for the reply. do you think with my 109m.p.h. swing speed the precept ball you refer to would spin just a tad too much?

Is that swing speed with a driver? Or irons?

I play with the Precept ball and it's just an easy ball to hit. (I also play with the Hogan Hawk, Titles NXT and Nike Platinum+) I get good distance and it's also a ball that compresses well. At $5 a dozen, you can't go wrong, either.

that's driver speed and I wish I could get balls for that price.dozen pro-v's up here are $59.00

You won't have a problem playing the Precept with that speed. I imagine that you have good control on sidespin and that you probably play with a slight draw? You also might want to ask around in the equipment room about purchasing balls. If not, try Walmart. I purchased the Precepts earlier this year. All their balls are reduced during the off-season. For example, they had the Nike One Black/Platinum at $35 a dozen.

I have been playing around with different balls this year. I have probably tried 6-8 different balls. I definetly think the ProV1 is a great ball but on the financial side and being a 14 handicap who looses at least one ball per round and scratches up two more from cart path or spin mill I have been trying to find a ball that cost less but can give close to the same performance. The two who have risen to the top for me are either one of the following:

1) TP Red

2) HX Tour 56

Bottom line is that any 3 piece ball that is made for your swing speed (Ex; HX Tour versus HX Tour 56) is going to play the best. There are a few 2 piece balls out there that come close but if you are serious about score and performance play a 3 piece ball.
