I think this is one of the best tips I have ever heard and I use it all the time, Try to throw the club as far as you can with out letting go, Your own natural tempo and timing will come into play and you will find that all your parts move in beautiful wonderful rhythm,

Is this a tip to find your comfortable rhythm and know how fast you should swing, or an actual hitting tip?

Because when doing that, you are throwing you body up, hence trying to scoop the ball up. This is the complete opposite of what you should be doing for your irons, and you should be hitting down all the way. When acting like throwing your club, your right shoulder is lower than the left, giving you a up feeling. Instead, you should have your left shoulder lower than the right.

I could easily be way off, considering you're much of a better player than I, but I'm kind of confused.

Elaborate?

Cizzle, i believe the OP's tip is referring to throwing the club forward. Not straight up into the sky. With so many swing methods, theories, and techniques that are being dissected and studied these days... Poozilla's tip actually steers you to a more natural motion that your body can perform. Since it's a natural motion, it should let your body do the thinking and keep your head out of the swing. I actually use a similar thought process for my chip shots, where i imagine the kind of hand/arm motion i'd take to throw a ball to a certain spot on the green. So with that motion, i just add my club to my hands and make the same motion again.

I really like the tip, since it goes along with my style of swing... which is one where i focus on the body turn more than the arms or the wrist cock, and let the body lead the arms. Really focusing on just extending the arms ( as in throwing motion ) on the follow through should help my distance and prevent me from getting cute with the hands or wrist. Now I really can't wait to get to a range and hit a couple buckets out there!!

Thanks for the tip Poozilla!!

This can be a very good drill. Take a look at this link: http://golf.about.com/library/tips/aa042705a.htm

It describes some of Fred Shoemaker's club throwing drill. This drill really does work. The full drill is described in Sheomaker's book Extraordinary Golf . The full drill involves doing the throwing with your eyes open or closed, and concentrating on different aspect of the swing/throw. One time you concentrate on the rhythm, another you concentrate on how far back you take a club to throw it a certain distance forward, a third time you concentrate on balance, etc.

But, as I said, this drill really can work. I went to a local flea market and bought a bunch of old unmatched random clubs, spent about $1 each, and did this in the yard. If you pay attention to the feelings, and change the focus from "hit the ball" to "toss the club to such and such a target" your body really does know how to get the most out of a swing -- then take those exact same sensations to the swinging of the club, and voila! That all-elusive feeling of effortless power. I highly recommend getting a copy of Shoemaker's book (that's what the library is for!).
