I was reading an article in Golf Magazine and one of the top instructors demonstrated the release. He mentioned having a body swing or more of an arms swing. He refered back to Phil Mickelson for the arms swing and Nick Faldo for a body/torso swing.

I got to thinking about it and I am torso all the way. My arms hardly move at all and the club head stays on the same plane the whole time (usually), until I come back through the swing. Inside square inside.

I was just wondering what you all use. Are you more arms or strictly torso? I was curious what our low and high handicap golfers use.

Im a 17 and use this torso swing and I've been dropping strokes quite a bit. I was more arms before and not being able to stay consistent at all. Sometimes I find myself reverting back to the old days, but usually if I take some practice swings at home daily it seems to really ingrain that full body turn and translates to practice and the course.

Torso. Like you, I used to use my arms a lot more and just never could find any consistency. Since I switched, I have found it much easier to maintain a constant swing arc and strike the ball solidly. Because of this, I feel like it really frees me up to swing without holding back. As long as I don't get too quick with the takeaway and I complete my turn going back, I know I can keep the clubhead on plane during the backswing. With my old swing I felt like I had to re-route the clubhead quite a bit to approach the ball from the inside. If my timing wasn't perfect I was in for a long day looking for balls OB to the right (or the next fairway over to the right).

Now, since I have confidence in my swing plane, I can really let go on my downswing. As a result my driver clubhead speed increased from 95-100 to 104-108 and I strike the ball somewhere relatively close to the center of the clubface much more often. Inside 100 yards is a different story...

    • Day 58: night putting session for about an hour. Started with lag putting and ended with putts inside 9’. I need to work on putts from 6-12’, but in a solid spot overall.
    • Birdied a different #6 today (incidentally, also a par-5, but not the same one on which I previously birdied).  Here's the funny thing though:  it's the par-5 that caused me to post my "how do I avoid bogeys?" on par-5s recently.  So I guess I still haven't parred that hole.
    • Day 20, May 24.  Played 18 today, very poor ball driving.  One GIR, and it was a 4-wood from the rough.  Several other instances of hitting a green on a full swing (and at least one full swing motion -- a 50% UW) that wasn't for GIR.   Still shot an 87 and even had a birdie (chip-in).
    • Welcome to TST.  I spent a bit of time in the UK but I had to look up Wagon Wheels.  Don't think I ever saw them.  Had to Google to see.  Couple similar items in US but Google says they are different. 😁
    • Day 264 5-24 Worked on getting chest through and arms down infront of chest. Contact isn't great yet but on video looking better.
