If I took foam and put it on the club such that the only space on the club was the sweet spot would it work.  Anybody ever tried this before?

The Tour striker does more than just isolate the sweet spot. IT is set up to promote shaft lean and a descending strike.

If you are trying to isolate the sweet spot, go really low tech and put rubber bands on either side.  It works well with putters as well.
