Scottsdale/Phoenix/Tucson Relocation Options

Hey all!

So I need some help. I have been around TST for years. Participate on and off, mostly off recently. I am in my mid-50's, 10 hcp and was able to retire early and live the life!  My financial situation can be described as solidly middle class retirement. I can't be frivolous but I am OK.  Found the perfect situation in Las Vegas and the last 3 years have been great. Well the course sold and I am not too pleased with the new owner. So investigating a change. The problem is that the things most important to me are the hardest to research on the web. I will probably be a snowbird but who knows what life brings. 

Here is my criteria in pretty much priority order of what I am looking for. So  just shoot out suggestions and I start listing them below.

1) Great course that challenging but playable every day

2) Several different groups/cliques that a guy could find regular games with. Never know which one you will bond with so there has to be options.

2a) Active tournament and men's/ladies club schedule

3)Private carts allowed

3a) Golf cart neighborhood

4) Decent real estate prospects

5) Reasonable F&B service and selection

6) Good staff and service

7) Good cost benefit

 

There is my top 7. The private cart situation my be ranked a little high on the list but the golf cart lifestyle is really cool.

There are tons of great options, especially in the Scottsdale area. (I assume you are looking for a private club?)  That said, budgets over there are all over the place.   I mean, I could send you over to Whisper Rock, or Silver Leaf...   but I'm just gonna go ahead and guess you won't be affording those.  (not that just anyone can become a member there anyways).  

I've played Arizona Country club, which is very nice, and from what I understand is priced reasonable.  I've played Terravita in Scottsdale as well, which is nice, it also sits next to a 55+ community.   The golf club itself is not 55+, but I think darn near 100% of the members there are.   

As far as numbers 2-5..   This is Arizona.  there are tons of snowbird members at all clubs all winter long.   you should be good wherever you choose.

I would check out Legend Trail.  Don't know the details re: your requirements but looks like a great neighborhood and a very playable, challenging course.  I'm not sure they allow private carts, thought.  Just don't know.  Also DC Ranch.  I'd also look in Fountain Hills.  SunRidge Canyon, Eagle Mountain.

El Conquistador in Oro Valley, suburb of Tucson. Two golf courses on property owned by the city and run by Troon. Fits most or all of the criteria with room for subjectivity as to how one defines "good" staff and service, cost benefit, etc. My parents are members there and I go down several times a year. Probably played at least fifty rounds there by now. Never any complaints. Solidly middle class.

      Day 105: mirror work today. Focused on not looping my hands at the top of the swing. Straight down.

      Still working on the backswing a bit. Hand still gets away from the body, out towards the ball, and at A2 the club wants to roll over and get flat at A3. It's just very difficult to shallow from that position like I want. Which makes my downswing work impossible.  Backswing I have been playing around with the left leg straightening to start the backswing. It's like, a slight shove of the hips right with the left leg. Then just keep the flex in the right knee as I turn into it. I kind of like it. I never had a good swing trigger. It helps keep my left knee extended.  Yea, definitely feeling the hand path is traveling down the feet line, and straight up. A little bit of wrist rotation, and a lot more hinge sooner in the right wrist and elbow. I am trying to get the feeling that the arm hinging up then is the cause for the right shoulder to retract to finish the backswing. Club feels much more vertical at A3. I am trying to have my wrist fully hinged by then.  Feel the club and arms stop at A3.5 (my A4). If my arm collapses late, then I turn into that and I am pretty much screwed. The club and arms kind of have a floaty feeling, where they are just suspended in air for a bit, then drop.  Downswing I have been trying to think of a good visual for this mentally. I like the idea of my hands taking a wide arc to my right pocket, or I am taking the back of the hosel and trying to hit the ground behind my right foot.    Left knee stuff, just sooner.

      Day 2 (10 Mar 26) - Worked on weight shift feel using slap stick drill (hands about 6” apart - coming back weight on trail foot - down - thru weight on lead foot….moved it to hitting chips w/9i playing what I call “leap frog” - hit 1st about 10yds, the next a couple past the 1st, for about 6 balls total.  Love it as the lies change, the distances vary making each swing slightly different.
