Whats the big deal about these? Are they really that good or just good marketing? Flying off the shelves at 300 a pop just made me curious.

I had one a few years ago and sold it because I wasnt playing enough golf to justify having that expensive of a putter. Well now I am playing more golf and the first thing I purchase was a good used one off another site for $175 and the thing looks brand new.

If you keep your eye out you can get a good deal on one.

I havent tried one but I most certainly will now. I think 150 is the most i'd put into a putter. If it is as smooth as I hear and lives up to the hype, i'd love to dump my Nike OZ. The Studio is the one right?

Many of the pros use the Cameron so many of the average Joes do as well. They are beautiful putters and the stamp "Scotty Cameron" just gives that feeling of quality but there are lots of other companies out making nice putters as well. I have a Cameron, bought it used for $100. Used it for 2 seasons and it has some scratches and a couple nicks in it so I thought to myself "why not just sand it down some, strip the black finish off and personalize it myself"... so that's what I did and I love it. I probably won't even use the new Never Compromise putter listed in my WITB stuff.

I was hesitant at first when I saw the cameron's and didn't think they would be worth the money. However after using a 2 ball for a few years I really noticed my distance control and feel were starting to suffer so spent most of last year looking and trying out a TON of different putters.

What I kept seeing was that a lot of pros continue to use Camerons or styles that are quite similar. That being said what's good for the best in the world isn't always the best for the rest of us. While trying all the different models though I kept coming back to the feel and the feedback of the camerons (studio style newport was my fav). I really feel like it helps you put by making you focus more yet still has a ton technology in it. Its made me want to practice more and the combination of it all has been better putting for sure.

Like some of the other people have said, you can get a pretty good deal on Ebay or some used sites but after it all I definitely say its been worth it and there is definitely some worth behind the cost.

I Second that - they look great. I find the cost greatly exceeds the usefulness though. The putter is the most important club in the bag, or at least the most used. So I can understand people forking out big money on a putter. And when you have something as beautiful as a Scotty in your hands, putting becomes the favourite part of your game, you practice more and you become a better putter. Or do you?

I have a and I like it very much. The reason I bought a is as follows:

1) Reputation - I had tried a few different putters over a years time frame and decided "it is the Indian not the arrow" and made a commitment to myself to become a great putter...so I traded in all those putters and bought a really well made reputable putter . Besides the price who makes a better putter? And like someon posted earlier it is the most important (equalizer) club in your bag...

1) Technology - What does this mean in reference to a putter? I am confused...if technology would help Tiger then why is he still putting with the same putter he used as a kid ( with a Ping grip)??? I think as long as you own a well made putter (balance, craftsmanship, etc...) then you have a great putter and now it is time for you to go learn how to use it as you cannot buy a putting game...just my 2 cents

1) Personal - love the look and feel of the studio putters...I will admit that I have hit putts at the golf store with other putters and said to myself that I could roll it with these but why should I change...I own a ...

good points - though other companys have a great reputations. Also - there is technology which can help you - 2 ball for allignment etc - Tiger has the best putting stroke in the world - standing up to pressure etc. Tiger doesn't need the technology - we need all the help we can get!

I could be wrong, but I always thought Tiger used a Ping Zing or Zing2 putter as a kid ... Hence, the reason he still uses a Ping putter grip to this day.

There are plenty of putters out there that are just as good as Scotty's. There is no doubt that Scotty's are some of the best made, well balanced, nicest looking putters out there. However you can buy a putter of comparable quality for half the price. I got a Newport 2 the other day when I was going to buy a Yes Callie for $150. Well there was a "used" Newport 2 at Golf Galaxy that was never used. With trade-in credit of $45 I got the Scotty for $140. That was a steal and the only reason I bought it. Thing is you have the freedom to try out the Scotty's because if they don't work for you the resale is good enough to go out and buy something else.

Look at it like this ---> Can you buy a nice pair of tennis shoes for less then the price of Nikes? Of course you can, but if you are the kind of person who buys the Nikes because they are Nikes then you are probably a Scotty Cameron Putter kind of person.....IMO

That is correct. He used a Ping Anser 2 as a kid. His Scotty has a similar head shape and obviously the same style of Ping Grip.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
