Hi folks,

I have been going through the math of the PGA tour study and the SwingTru study as it relates to hip turn.  I am okay with my lead hip, but my rail hip doesn't turn very well, not becuase of flexibility but mototor control.

Tour players have an average of 55 degrees of turn in the backswing and 36 open when they hit the ball.  Now I don't know if I can even come close to thsoe numbers but I am trying to adapt my wing to get closer.

If I stand square to the ball I find I can get about 30 degrees of backswing turn.  and about another 35 on the through swing.  WHat I have started doing is adapting from the senior golfers moving my trail leg back and flaring it out.  This has opened up my back swing to at least 50 and a lot longer backswing.  The longer backswing seems to be giving me more time to built power in the turn menaing I am more open on the way down.

If I am swinging back to 50 degrees and forward to 25 I am getting more speed.  THis is all an apporximation of course but I hit some 3 irons last night well over 200yds and that is a lot for me.  I've also been trying to be very concious of lossening my wirsts as I find it helps with the whipping acation even more.

Is there any downside to starting slightly closed like this as long as I move the ball back in m stance.?  Is  it going to start huritng the other side of my back?  If I do get the motor control eventually in my trail hip.  Unlikely but possible will it be a big change to go back?  Do any toru players have a closed address position like this.

Following as I seem to do this with longer clubs, with driver maybe even too much. Related blog, that I'd like to hear opinions on:

    • Day 47: simulator day! Played St. Andrew’s and shot a +1. Not bad, especially with having to putt at this simulator set up. Had about 5 minutes at the end to work on some feels as well.
    • I think you're saying it's preposterous to think that the areas on this club are anything like what's shown here: 30mm toward the toe or heel loses only 5% distance? Highly, highly doubtful. So a guy who hits the ball there and normally hits the ball about 250… will hit it instead about 238. By missing the sweet spot by about 1.2 inches? Highly, highly doubtful. Heck, the high heel barely gets into the red, and orange is only "up to" 10%! @M2R, I've never heard of "Ask Golf Nut" but I'm dubious of his claims in the video and really, really dubious of what's on his site: "Why AskGolfNut Is the Most Trusted Data-Driven Golf Resource". Hmmmmmm.
    • Day 151 1-11 flow work today. I've been doing all pause work, so Inwanted to get some rhythm going. Recorded.

    • So the question was posed today by some of my friends.  Is a pitch mark the same as a divot?  I thought NO, but they argued if your ball lands in another player's divot (made by club during a swing) this was the same as a pitch mark, i.e. the ball mark made when the ball lands
