Hi all. I just discovered The Sandtrap today after searching for "Regripping at the top of the backswing." The thread was from 2009.
I was playing 2 days ago and the first 6 was a struggle with ball striking. I knew I was not transitioning properly , so I decided to try and slow my backswing a little to create time. The next swing I made was a perfect contact but I noticed I had done something odd at the top of the backswing. It wasn't a regrip as such, more like I'd loosened my grip and added an extra little wrist hinge.
The next 8 holes were great for ball striking (obviously chipping went off but came from 4 down to level the match).
My theory is that those few fractions of a second had created more time in my backswing to allow my weight to transfer correctly.
Anyone have any experience of this?

I find that I strike the ball better with a slower backswing, but I tend to be too quick and that causes issues.

You need to swing at the speed that allows you to properly sync up, if that makes sense. Everyone has an ideal tempo and I get out of sync when I am swinging too hard (not necessarily fast) at the incorrect times. A great drill is to swing 100% and drop in 10% increments until you feel the sync, go down another 10% until you kind of lose it, then find it again (ie: full swing at @60% is my point). Hit a few more shots to really feel it and ramp up keeping that feel until you lose it and then gear down (rinse and repeat). This will help you find your optimal tempo. For me its more about perceived effort than actual speed.

After yesterday's round, I need to do this drill again.
