Poorly Maintained Greens

I think, if they want to make it tougher on the pros, they could stop maintaining the greens so well. Think how their scores would change if they had to putt on greens that looked like this:

The course I normally play has some greens that are in really bad condition. I know the course has been hurting financially as Covid closed the border and much of their business came from Canada. And, I know they've been working on them - they've applied a fertilizer/moss killer a couple of times in the last couple of months - but still. Putting on these things can be an exercise in the application of chaos theory as it applies to the putted golf ball as it bounces and dodges left and right and up and down on its journey towards (hopefully) the hole. I'm sure that these greens cost me a couple of strokes per round and when I play on real greens it takes a while to adjust to seeing a ball that moves along one dimension instead of three.

However, it is the least expensive course in the area and I never have to make a tee time so there are some good things about it. And, right now, the fairways are in excellent condition and they're keeping them well mowed so that's also good. Later in the summer these fairways will turn to concrete and I will get some truly amazingly long drives - until I go play a real course!  😀
