I went to a golfsmith to get some regripping done for my wedges today. Before regripping I checked the swing weight on my 58* Vokey SM wedge and it turned out to be only D2.5. Titleist website states that it should be D5. Has anyone checked their swing weight on their Vokey SM before?

Also would appreciate Cleveland CG12 owners to check their swing weight vs what was stated on their website.

Thanks.

I have that club but don't know how to check the swingweight. Is there a basic way to do this or do you need a special tool of some sort? Appologies if that is a dumb question.

Are you saying this is a problem? The only reason i ask is because you hadn;t noticed it unitl you decided to check it, which tells me that it doesn't really matter. It obviously hasn't made the wedge perform any differently to how you thought it would.

I'm not sure on how accurate swing weight is, is the wedge off the shelf? If so, it is more likely to be innaccurate than if you had it custom fit.

My SM's are about D6.5. But I think it might be due to my lightweight Ping turquoise grips.

I checked it because it felt lighter than my friend's CG12, which is supposed to be D6. Mine felt considerably lighter which led me to check the swing weight before regripping and with the intension to put right amount of lead tape.

It really matters because I am paying the price to get an equipment and I expect it to get no more or no less. Second, I have to spend extra cash to get the weight done ($5 per 2g lead tape). Yes it's not much but still, why pay extra when you can get it right on the first purchase? Performance wise was ok till now so not a big deal but better feedback and the club really works itself with a heavier swing weight for me. If one day, you ever find out that your swing weight of a club you purchased is off and is not a big deal for you, go ahead and play with it but I am just raising this to the forum members to find out if they are having the same (fraud - Don't know if this is the right word but you know what I mean) issues as well because it is quite a big deal for me. Especially coming from Vokey.

I wasn't being rude, i was just asking the question, if you hadn't noticed it until you had checked it, then it isn't a problem. If you have noticed and feel that it is hampering your performance, then change it. I have a vokey SM wedge, and i honestly feel that it is a lot lighter (swingweight wise) than my nike SV's. not sure if this is actually the case or not though.

Sorry dude. I didn't mean to be rude either. Yup checked a few of my friends' vokeys today... They were all different w/ original grip. Most had + - 0.5 to 1 swing weight difference but some had D2 and another had D 6.5... Beats me...

No worries, i haveto admit, it has got me wondering, especially seeing as i am re-gripping mine this week. I can't think of a reason why any club could be this far out, a couple of points perhaps, but not drastically. How did you check it, have you got a swing weight guage?

I remember being told that often clubs have tolerances such as +/- 2* loft and lie and am beginning to wonder if this applies to swingweight as well.

2 grams of head weight equals one swing weight. a difrence of one swing weight is not noticible to even tour pros but your talking about 3 or 4 sw wow!!! I build clubs as a hobby and kind of a side business and make all of mine within 1 swing weight of eachoter, wedges are heavier on the SW scale for better feel you are correct. rember if you have a super heavy grip that will lighten the SW as well. If I rember corectly its 1 sw lighter for every 5 grams of butt weight.

So you mean to tell me that a Pro can't tell the difference in 1 SW, but they can if it's 2.5....

I call BS............your talking about 4 grams...dirt on the head or grip could weight that much

4 grams...4 grams.....give me a break...freakin go play, way to anal IMO

To the OP...dude take them back, that is just unacceptable...

Larvell sorry to make you angery with information. You asked I told you. The fact of the matter is that 2 grams equals one SW grab a club that is D6 and one that is D2 you will be able to tell the diffrence and that is only 8 grams, A pro who makes his living playing golf can not tell one SW diffrence but 2 he can at least thats what I read in golf digest a few years back. By the way have you ever seen a pro pull a club out with a clump of dirt on it? No they clean them off after every shot so it wont effect SW.

I wasn't angry at all........I just think a 4 gram diff. is getting way to anal, and of course we don't play with dirt on the clubs...it was a supposed to be a bit of sarcasm...

A normal sheet of paper weights 4.5 grams.....come on'...to each his own I guess

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
