I would say the first big single club I purchased was a TaylorMade firesole driver.   First big overall purchase was a set of Titleist DCI irons.

I think the Firesole driver was the only time I got a "current year" driver.   I usually get a couple years older one on eBay since they cost so much as a single club.

I bought a set of Callaway X-14 irons around 2000 or so.  It was a poor decision and I've been assembling my own clubs ever since.
