Mainly looking for places with some BnB or places to stay in smaller towns that have some pubs and aren't too touristy, but I'm really up for anything.

* Arrival day in Dublin
Night - Drive near Old Head?  (about an hour south of Cork)
* Day 1: Playing Old Head Golf Links
Night - Drive to Killarney?
* Day 2: Playing Dooks Golf Club & playing Waterville Golf Links (both courses west of Killarney)
Night - 2nd night in Killarney?
* Day 3: #4 Playing Tralee Golf Club (close to Tralee)
Night - no idea
* Day 4 :#5 Playing Cashen & Playing Ballybunion Golf Club - both located same place (just west of Listowel)
Night - no idea, someone recommended Doolin
* Day 5: #7 Playing Lahinch Golf Course
Night - back in Dublin
* Depart Dublin

Most of the tee times are in the morning, so I'd like to finish golfing for the day and drive to the next town. Was thinking Killarney on the nights of Day 1 and Day 2 but if there's a better town, would be all for it.

Thanks for the help!

If it helps, here's a map:(https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1blYlvU_GIbuymRJA_kuTKqVPnvxTjHQO&usp=sharing but the courses aren't in order, but might be easier to look at.

Thanks!

J

I'll provide at least a couple of suggestions.  In Killarney, I've stayed at the Killeen House three times now, its great.  Its a bit out of the town, so its not conducive to pub-crawling, but the restaurant is excellent, and the self-service pub is ideal.  I know there are dozens of B&Bs in the town, if you'd prefer to be in the center of things.  Killarney has been a tourist mecca for a couple hundred years.

Day 3 - I prefer to move the minimum number of times in a trip, so I'd go back to Killarney after playing Tralee.  The other option I'd consider is one night in Ballybunion.  I stayed at Teach de Broc the one time I was in Ballybunion.  Its directly across the road from the Ballybunion clubhouse.  Again, there are lots more B&Bs in Ballybunion, tons of pubs and restaurants.

Day 4, after golf take the ferry across the Shannon and stay near Lahinch.  Doolin is nice, 10 or 12 miles further north, relatively famous for live trad music in a number of pubs.  In Lahinch I stayed at a place now called Lehinch Lodge, its changed hands since I was there so I don't anything recent.  The location is good, very close to the golf course, and easy walking distance into town.  On our most recent trip we stayed at a B&B just outside Ennistymon, a few miles inland, but that appears to have gone out of business now.  Ennistymon is a nice little village, much more local than tourist, with  a couple of really cool pubs.  One of our favorite pubs in all our travels was the Nineteenth, right in downtown Lahinch.  We had a really good meal at Vaughans Anchor Inn, in Lisconnor.

Have fun, drink a pint of the black stuff for me!:beer:

Thanks for all the information! I'll look into the ones you listed. Wouldn't mind staying two nights at one town, but also want to see and experience a little of the other towns. Appreciate the help!

I'll make sure to have an extra pint for you!

Everyone is different, I just don't like packing and unpacking any more than necessary.  It definitely makes a lot of sense to stay two nights in Killarney.  I've also enjoyed walking into the same pub a few nights in a row, and quickly being treated as a "regular", although you won't be going out much after Day 2.  The drive from Dooks down to Waterville isn't far, but you won't average 40 mph along the way, with the same rugged roads on your way back to Killarney.

A last question, or bit of advice.  Do you really have to fly into Dublin?  Shannon is much closer to the area you're planning to play, you could save hours of "windshield" time going through Shannon.

Great advice Dave Thanks! Once I get done building our house, our next overseas golf trip is planned to be this area and I never thought of arriving anywhere but Dublin, my ignorance. Mahalo!

    • I’d go with the Titleist if you liked the look of the blades but were suffering with distance. They should be a little more forgiving than a full blade and still retain some workability. Also remember to consider the shafts each have as this will be a big contributor to how they feel. Clemsonfan is right though… get fit or spend a bit of time on a launch monitor 🤙
    • Day 28: 2026.01.30 Managed to make time for a few swings out back today. Need a proper bit of range time this weekend.
    • Day 30, 1/30.  Six minutes this morning hitting a few more range balls, indoors, off a mat, into the net.  Did this before leaving the house.

    • Hi All my New Year’s resolution was to start playing golf again. I’ve caught the bug and am really enjoying hitting balls at a couple of my local ranges.looking forward to getting back out on courses in the spring. Based in the UK and 38 years old, I’ve been playing since I was a kid. Best handicap I’ve held is 2 in my mid 20s. Over the past 10 years I’ve played once or twice a year, sometimes with friends or for work. Could shoot 4-5 over, but just as easily shoot 15-20 over. I’ve moved to South Wales and am very lucky to be near some world class links courses, which gives me even more motivation to get playing again! I will start looking for a local coach in my area when I have more time to invest, but I recalled scouring this forum a few years ago and finding some good tips and advice so wanted to give it a try to see if there were any glaring issues I could fix in the meantime!  A few swings below… one from 1st week Jan and one from today. I have fixed my P1 takeaway to my liking and am now working on what I see as pretty severe early extension & hip thrust. Also terrible hip rotation. I’d like confirmation that this is indeed a problem and and suggestions on a few good drills. Thanks for reading 🙂 I've been Playing Golf for: 30+ years My current handicap index or average score is: 10ish over My typical ball flight is: mid The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: push right with irons, hooks and push with driver!  Videos:
