Interesting idea.

There is certainly something to be said about removing the notion of tanking from the sport.

The one bit of it I'm turning over in my head is the idea of declaring yourself out of the playoffs to start accumulating Gold points earlier. I'd assume that wouldn't be very common, but that could result in some pretty strange things occasionally.

Yeah. Most teams wouldn't ever do it. There are always surprises year to year, and everyone thinks they're going to do better than they do.

And the stats show pretty clearly that if you never declare early, and you just wait until you're actually eliminated, then you still have a good chance of picking first or second. So teams would still not declare very early.
