Ron, I had to jump on the web and say thanks.

I used to play ball sports and have quite a bit of macho in me. I picked up golf when I was younger and enjoyed simply driving the ball long and, well that's it frankly. By playing enough I became a bogey golfer on a good day. I guess you'd say a 22-ish. Obviously very casual. Never took it seriously but at least could not look completely foolish. My irons were my strong game as I never used extra force, just nice and easy. Drive was always a mess, far but a huge slice. Too much macho and bad habits. I never cared to try to swing like I should.

Recently I picked the game up again. Very recently. I've been struggling mightily and even my irons have been horrible, struggling to make even consistent contact.

I recently found your videos and took a look. At this point I was already looking to put the macho aside, so your ideas, which are completely refreshing, were something I took seriously. If I wanted to actually do it, I figured I'd have to start from scratch. So after studying everything, I went out to the practice range.

3 balls into it I thought this was ridiculous. After a few more I was making contact. Taking your eye off the ball? Seems counter-productive, but then I started thing about every other sport and you never watch the ball, folllow through is important.

After 3 buckets I was absolutely astounded. I was hitting EVERY SINGLE BALL straight as an arrow and the same distance. The driver, it being a different theory was harder, but that came too. I still have a small slice, but it's completely different. Distance was the same or better.

Today I played my first real 9 holes using your method. I went to a course I've played a few times recently. Last time out I shot in the mid-50s, and I know that was generous. A few of the hacks I know went with me and I told them about your theory. No one took it seriously which was fine.

I shot a 37 today.

I was on in 2 on 7 holes.
6 holes i was on the fairway off the tee (believe me that's unbelievable)

This was the best round of my life. I can't putt as you can clearly do the math, but this was beyond shocking.

I do NOT expect to do this every time out. I know today was a special day and someone was helping me out to get my confidence up. Still, I know your theory more than just "works" -- it's special.

Ron, from the bottom of my heart, thank you!

Well the next 9 holes were not quite as good, but there was a lot more consistency then there ever has been. I shot a 44 but it was the way I did that I was happy with. I had a couple of bad shots then stopped trusting my swing and went back to old habits. When I relaxed and got back into my new way of thinking, all was good again. Parring 3 of the last 4 gave me a lot of optimism that I was doing what I needed to do. Now I have to learn to putt..................

Anyway, thanks again, I know I'm on my way to at least not embarrassing myself!

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
