The thing no one has brought up is its cheap. griping clubs is easy to do yourself. Even if you have somone else do it it is cheap. A lot of people are choosing to go with 5 to 8 dollar grips and that will get expensive. I play golf pride tour velvet at about 2.70 a grip so for less then a dozen prov1s I have all new grips and it does make the clubs feel new. If you want to do it your self PM me and I will talk you through it.

apply tape, stick tee in the butt end of the grip, squirt solution in grip shake...pour out over tape, stick on grip...

Is that how you do it......

You got it larlev. make sure to leave a little bit of tape over the end so you can twist it to seal the shaft. If to much gets down the shaft it can affect the bond of the club to the shaft. Some times the harder part is removing the old grip and grip tape. on steal you can just scrape it off with a razor but on graphite that can damage the fibers so you need to peel the old tape off by hand. (a small amount of heat helps the old tape come off). A ruber shaft clamp (mabe 2 bucks) is a very handy thing to have when gripping but not a nasesity.

I have done some of them. I personly dont like them so I would never put them on my clubs. But as long as you use enough grip solvent and adjust them within the first 3 or 4 min its not that hard to line them up. Put the grip in the vise and grip them like you would any other grip. take it out of the vise drop it into the playing position and adjust as needed.

Take some soap and a scrub brush to your old grips. You will be suprised at how like new they can get. I try to wash mine once a month. Dry them really good so you don't gey any dry-rot. Other than that new grips every 2 years shoudl do you just fine.

I was going to say, simply keeping them clean works wonders. But, my grip has always been a little, heavy If I've played a full season, sometimes I'll switch mine 2/3rds of the way thru, because they're actually worn a little. And yeah, gripping your own clubs is def. simple--I can do it--its simple!! My only problem is lining up the grips before the solvent is gone and the tape starts to take.

[QUOTE=iWALK18;127748]I have heard from Leadbetter and many other golf commercial types that new grips every year (or 40 rounds) are essential. How true is this? I'm sure that there is a point that you would need new grips, but every year seems like a lot.

Isn't Leadbettor a paid spokesman for Golf Pride? Regripping could be a big source of revenue if everyone regrips each year.

I think your know when to regrip. If the grip is worn, broken, shiny, cracking or slick, its time to regrip. Nothing worse than looking at someone playing golf and their grips are literally falling off their clubs from dry rot. The idea is you grip a worn grip tighter than a new one for traction and this hurts your swing.

this whole re-grip every year BS was started by the grip companies... be analytical and just look at and feel your clubs instead of sheepishly taking advice from people making a buck on you.

Who's sheepishly taking advice? I'm questioning it...

I love golfpride's duel compound grip...i havent found one better for me. If you havent tried those give them a shot when you re-grip.

Ya i actually put these on my wedges a while back. I liked them a lot, and would put them on all my clubs if they weren't so pricey.

Ya thats what i'm saying. I've been bombarded with his golf pride commercial on TGC which says:

"Change your grip at the start of every golf season or every 40 rounds, whatever comes first. Research shows that changing your grips can shave 3-4 shots off your score." He goes on to say that your grip slipping 1/16th of an inch makes your shots miss by 20 yards... OH NO! But like you point out thats very self-serving. My clubs are a year and a half old and I've probably played well over 50 rounds with them.

Don't wash a WINN in soap and water... use a little rubbing alcohol and a clean towel. Some other grip types may be better to clean this way as well... I would just check the manufacturer websites.

Are Winns somehow different? They're still rubber, right? I thought the general rule with rubber (grips - and leather ones too) was not to clean them with alcohol because that'll just dry them out and lead to cracking and other "bad things"? No?

I believe this is true. Makes sense, in the least.

i think re-gripping every 40 rounds is not needed. I play 50-60 rounds a year and have been for 3 years And I havent re-gripped my clubs since I got them (4-5 years ago) They still are pretty grippy, either they are really good grips or I'm not golfing enough .

The only thing thats happening is the bottom of the grips are splitting.

NO, they are not rubber, they are polymer, and I'm just restating what the website says.

OK. So you've got $1,000 worth of clubs and are worrying about regripping because it's "too costly" and you think the grip companies are marketing you too heavily?

Let's say you've spent $1,000 on your clubs. Once a year you must break down and buy new grips.

14 grips X $5.00 = $70.00 (yearly, on average)

Why cheap out on grips when they are the the connectors to the actual clubs you've spent so much money on?

Those slightly worn spots on your grips (and gloves) equal minute degrees of movement during your swing and impact. Can you pinpoint exactly where that minute movement is and when it occurs?

Always interesting seeing golfers on the range/course with the latest and greatest equipment whilst sporting a torn-up glove full of holes and worn out grips.

Ever notice how wearing a new glove fresh out of the package affects your ball flight? Or after you've gotten new grips?

Nah.

    • Day 65: Played 18. Decent round with the exception of two doubles.
    • Went back to feeling the hands slowing down and stopping at A3. Feel a significant pause at A3. Hands down towards the ground. I get the mental image of Morikawa with how he pauses at the top of the swing, but then really rips at it.  For me, I have to  grip the club about 5° open. Or at least what looks like. With the driver, it’s another story. A bit of a regression here. Lots of John Daly– esque over swing. Lots of  shallowing with the body. If I try to send the club behind me with the hands going down to the ground. I have a bad habit of timing that with an over swing. So, I had to go back to feeling a significant positive again to control the back swing length. Then I went back to try to bring the back of the right hand down to my right hip. It feels stupidly, awkward. Like no flow to the swing. But from A6 through impact  feels more effortless. Now I’m hitting some decent push cuts this way. In the swing feels like it has no speed. But, it’s probably better overall. something I noticed that is way different from my irons to my driver is that with my irons I can keep my eyes looking at the ball much better through the downswing. With the driver, I find it pretty much impossible to do. Will post some videos later.
    • The text, in case Elon ever kills Twitter (more than he already has): Quick 18-hole game you can play on a launch monitor: Write 90, 95, 100, 105… 175 on 18 balls. Put them in a bag, pick one out, try to carry the ball the listed distance. Scoring: - ≤ 1 yd, Eagle - 1.1 - 3 yds, Birdie - 3.1 - 6 yds, Par - 6.1 - 9 yds, Bogey - > 9 yards, Double Of course, you don't have to do it with 18 balls; you can use slips of paper, etc. You could also set a start and end point and randomly generate 18 numbers, and play to those yardages. But… let's see some scores? Let's see what people get. The nice thing is… you only need a Mevo level device.
    • He's entertaining. I still don't "like" him, and he has said a lot of stupid shit over the years, recently about the LIV stuff and the OWGR, etc. TikTok is infinitely more evil than Bryson.
    • I have a full day of house hotel (not true, I went to Golf Evolution before 7am and just got home: four hours of work and 40 minutes of practice) and I'm primed to watch the U.S. Open.
