plastic bags over the socks!

ok bad idea.

When it's wet I usually just wear an extra pair of no show socks so they don't interfere with feeling too much but cover my feet.

I worked at a SportChek managing the Hargoods and Footwear Departments. To help with waterproofing we sold some aerosol sprays such as "Rain and Stain" protector or "Waterproofing" sprays. These will put a small coating over the existing outer of the shoe and they definitely do a good job beading water off the shoe in the short term but you'll have to re-apply it to keep up the protection. I used to spray all my new shoes and it really did help.

We did sell the NikWax products as well but mostly just for winter coats so not sure about their shoe products however the jacket wash-ins have a really good reputation and most outdoor/camping stores should have a fairly good selection.

go to the timberland store. there's this rub on stuff that you treat suede and leather with. rub that in & buff it out. it's AWESOME. you see the water sheet right off like you just waxed a car.

If it's regular water-proofing on like sneakers, then just use one of those spray ons that you can pick up from foot locker or foot action.
