I saw Erik's post and looked at the Z factor as well as other putting aids. Given price and storage difference, has anyone compared Z factor to the Momentus Putting Drill?

No offense intended, but c'mon... the two are vastly different products in terms of what they do, how they're built, etc. There's very little comparison to make.

They said on the Golf Channel during the Nationwide Touranement today that oen of the golfers heard Dave Peltz say it takes 20,000 stokes to correct a bad habit. So, seems a device like this might help someone create an almost perfect stroke. My putting is so good I'd hate to mess with it. Hopefully I never need a putting gizmo. Anyway, It seems the device might help someone who needs better putting technique. I spend maybe 5 hours a week practicing my putting. That seems to help.

Dean sent me a dvd without any questions.
Great customer service!
The DVD is definitely a lot more helpful than the paper manuals I got.

I'm still a bit confused about my stroke though.
I've setup with the red spacer (most curving arc)
When I close my eyes and swing my putter on the machine, it feels like I'm actually swinging with a U shape instead of an upside down U.
I was just rotating my shoulders without any hand manipulation.

Is this supposed to be right?

Are you standing on the proper side of the thing?

I think you may need to go visit a teaching professional.

Of course I am standing on the proper side.

I think my stroke has a bigger curve than the machine's biggest setting.

If that's so, your stroke is probably far too arced. You should probably tone it down a little.

I got one too - i always "tried" putting square to square - adjusted the machine accordingly and it actually didnt work well. So i tried the different arcs and found out that my natural stroke is indeed "arcish" - so all the time i basically forced myself into a unnatural square to square type stroke. So in that case the machine did help to cure a forced error but the machine definately cant replace your work on the putting green. There is just no replacement for practicing pace and seeing puts break.

Unfortunately i couldnt find a number of muscle memory and repeats - but 20k seems awfully high - anybody got something scientific on this topic?

I think I need to get checked for dyslexia or Alzheimers or something, because I read that as:

"If that's so, your stroke is probably far too arsed . You should probably tone it down a little."

If you bought a z-factor, are you still using it. I have a feeling that Erik still is, but was wondering about the others who have said the got one.

Thanks for any updates.

Yeah, still using it. Though I'll probably use it a bit less over the winter. Or maybe more since I won't be able to play actual golf.

My putting is a continuous struggle. When I practice, I do OK - when I don't, it's not very good. I can definitely tell that using the z-factor helps keep my putting at a decent level. I quit using it over the summer and it's pretty obvious from my stats.

On the flip side, my full swing and ball striking doesn't change much even when I don't practice so at least I know where to concentrate my practice time.

I still used mine but not as much.
When I feel my stroke is off, I use it.
My stroke certainly improved a lot, but it's the reading and the speed that keep me from making more putts.

I had a question abou this and I know Erik did a review on it on this site, but something I didn't see or maybe I missed is the reason for the multiple arc settings. On www.perfectputtingmachine.com , it states "The swing plane can be changed for golfers of different specifications.", but doesn't go into any more detail than that. How would one go about figuring out which is the right arc for his/her specification? To me, if you're emulating a smaller form of a full swing, wouldn't there be an ideal arc that each person should follow?

Any help would be appreciated on this. Also, any other feedback on the product (pros/cons) would be great. I'm eyeing one of these on ebay right now...

Possibly, but your address position, your grip, the club's length, the lie… they're all so different that it's going to vary from everyone. Even a 34" putter with 70° lie angle is going to be stroked differently by different people of different heights, etc.

You figure out which arc you like by making your natural stroke and seeing which feels the best. I merged your post into this thread. Go back to the beginning and read - I suggest.

So I just got my Z Factor that I bought used off of ebay, but something I didn't get were unused adhesive tapes to connect my putter to the magnets. The magnets he sent had worn out tape on them. Any suggestions on making it work? Your help is appreciated!

Posted

Just buy some regular adhesive tape?

If this contrapment had come in a full swing version, for a reasonable price, I'd buy it.

That's what I was thinking about doing. I would be practicing with my gamer putter. Any issues with adhesive on it?

    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
    • Day 580 - 2026-05-04 Played eight holes. Sometimes golf kicks you in the nuts. 😉
    • I work with a lot of golfers who want more shaft lean at impact, who currently have AoAs that range from +2° to -2°, and who love to see the handle lower and more "in front of their trail thigh" from face-on at P6. And a lot of these golfers try to solve the issue by working on the downswing. They do something to drag the handle forward. Or they just leave their right thigh farther back so the same handle location "looks" farther forward. Or they move the ball back in their stance. Or they push themselves down into the ground to get the handle lower and increase (decrease?) their AoA (to be more negative). The real fix is often to get wider in the backswing. To do LESS in the backswing. To hinge less, fold the trail arm less, abduct the trail arm less. I had a case of this over the weekend. Before, the player had 110° of trail elbow bend, "lifted" his trail humerus only a few degrees, etc. The club traveled quite a bit around him, and he tended to "pick" the ball from the fairways. In the "after" swings below (which are mild exaggerations — this golfer does not need to end up at < 70° of elbow bend. These were slower backswings with "hit it as hard as you normally would" intent downswings), you can see that he bent his elbow about 70° instead of 110° and lifted his right arm an extra ~15° or more. You can't see how much less this moved his hands across his chest (right arm abduction), but it was also decreased. His hands stayed more "in front of" his right shoulder rather than traveling "beside" them so much. The two swings look like this: The change at P6, without talking about the downswing one little bit (outside of him telling me that he tends to pick the ball), is remarkable: Without 110° of elbow bend to get out (which he gets to 80°, a loss of 30°), the golfer actually loses slightly less elbow bend (70 - 50 = 20), but delivers 30° less elbow bend, lowering the handle and letting the elbow get "in front of" the rib cage… because it never got "behind" or "beside" the rib cage. If you look at this video showing the before/afters of P6, you'll note the handle location (both vertically and horizontally) and the shoulders (the ball is in the same place in these frames). This golfer's path was largely unaffected (still pretty straight into the ball, < 3° path and often < 1.5°), but his AoA jumped to -5° ± 2°. I've always said, and in talking with other instructors they agree and feel similarly, that we spend a lot of time working on the backswing. This is another example of why.
    • We had a member of our senior club who developed a mental block on pulling the trigger. I played with him to see what the membership was talking about. I timed him a few times when he would get over the ball. 45 seconds. He knew he had a mental block and would chide himself, “Just hit it!” Once on the green he was okay and chipping was a bit better. It was painful to watch him struggle. Our “bandaid” was to put him in the last tournament  tee time with two understanding players. We should have suggested to him to take a break from our tournaments. I agree with the idea that when a player realizes they have a problem, the answer is to go fix it and not return until they are able to play at an acceptable pace.
