Was perusing the golf subreddit and this Tiktok turned up. Never seen it before. Apparently you put your ball into it to claim a spot to tee off. Couldn't find another spiral version, found some more straightforward looking ones in UK golf stores. I guess the odds are slim two people are using the same exact ball with the same number.

Help stop disputes at your golf club with this classic free standing Golf Ball starter chute / trough / rack. This handy queuing tool is phosphated

Here are some rules on how to use it from UK clubs.

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

Those things are like 50 years old. As you said, that's how you used to put your group in for your spot on the tee.

    • Day 216: 7/26/24 Putting along 3’ 1” wide ruler. Dry swings with a 7-iron.
    • Day 85 (26 Jul 24) - Played 18 today (in the rain for most of the round).  Was a fun day, as rain goes, to work on very different course conditions - course was totally soaked, cart path only (no exceptions per the Supt), so zero ball roll out, soaked slow greens.  How did it play out?  Quite consistent as I shot 84 (43 front, 41 back).  A day of focused wedge play to darts on the green as I did not have to worry about excess roll.  While it was a card full of bogies (11 total), a lone double that was countered by a hole out birdie on the par 3 12th hole.  Solid, solid putting - those darts gave me quite a few one putts (8 total) for 26 putts total.
    • I just recently bought two pairs of True, originals 1.2 and a lightweight pair which will have to wait until after Winter.  Very comfortable, but they leaked at the hells, unusual design almost like they have a slipper inside at the back with a waterproof membrane.  The leaked  outside of the membrane, but it eventually crept up into the shoe. I’ve had them replaced, but I haven’t really had a chance to test them yet
