This came up in my club championship (which just ended yesterday).  One of my hopes -- a consequence of my practice plans this summer -- was my hope to be in a flight that isn't the highest handicap grouping in my club championship.  It turns out I missed the line by a small amount.  I think 0.3 handicap marks lower, I'd have been in that flight.  While I ended up winning D flight gross, some of my friends told me it was B.S. that I was even in D flight (I don't disagree, but it certainly wasn't my plan, and I think everyone in C and D flight who knows me knows it wasn't my intent).

The funny thing is, my club has a "club index" -- your last however many tournament rounds are used for a separate calculation, and if that's lower than your low index, you use that for big events (club championship, match play, etc).  In my club's match play, I got to the quarter finals -- and that quarter final round knocked a 79 out of my club index (no longer one of my X most recent), raising my playing handicap for the tournament to put me into D flight.  So blame whoever I beat in the round of eight :-)

Oh well.  I started the club championship as a 13.2 and am now a 12.3 three rounds later :-) So my plans to have a vanity handicap and play to it are coming to fruition!

    • Day 214: did a stack session.
    • Day 11: 2/18/25 Weight shift drills followed by slow motion swings.
    • Patrick Cantlay standing over the ball at the 2018 PGA Championship haha. Dunno what the story behind this is. But at the 2012 Players, Kevin Na was going through some rough swing thought stuff. This article I linked below says he was fixing early extension at the time while also trying to get used to feeling less weight in heels at address, and tho he hit it better than with his old swing, he had a really tough time with it, even in practice rounds. https://vault.si.com/vault/2016/01/18/kevin-na-fit-be-tied-just-ask-him   Anyway, just a couple high level examples of this.
    • Yes, but they break every 5-7 years. So… Meh. I'm looking at alternatives. I also don't like how they call it a lifetime warranty… but give you $25 off a product (I was looking to get the Munich if I stuck with MoneyClamps).
    • Day 141 - 2025-02-18 Did work at home. I have a few long days at Golf Evolution so I didn't want to spend a LOT of time there today. 😄
