Im ready to order a putter online, but I'm really not sure what length I need. I need a putter length in which I have room for growing into also.

Im currently 16 and Im about 5'8" - 5'10" not completely sure. What length do you suggest I need? I dont have a really bent back stance when Im putting either.

Is there a chart anywhere I can use?
Also, what is the difference between centre shafted and other shaft positions?

Thanks,
Dent

I'm 15 and around 5'7 5'8, and I use a 34" putter, and it's perfect length, because I don't bend my stance that much either. I think you would be good with a 34", 34.5", or a 35".

It really depends on your stance, one would have to see it. I'm 5' 5" and i use a 32.5, but I was using a 35, until I got fitted and found out i need a 32.5

Dent, it is a matter of personal preference. I am 5'10" and I played a 35 inch for a long time and it never felt right. I got fitted at Golf Galaxy and now I play a 34 inch putter and it is perfect. I dont bend over very much either. I was surprised how much that one inch difference made for me. Maybe you could go to a golf store and try some of the putters out and see which length you really like and then you could order that one online.

I believe so as well. We just had a thread that asked for your height + putter length. I'm 5'10" and use a 33" putter.

The thread saw people 6'2" using 33" putters and people 5'8" using 35" putters. And vice versa. Choose the putter length that: a) feels most comfortable to you b) allows you to make a repeatable stroke Some people buy a 35" putter and grip down an inch or two, then grip at full length for the really long putts. I never personally cared for that method, but you might like it.

I am 5'6". I use a 32" putter. I find myself gripping down a bit on short putts and gripping a bit more toward the top on the longer putts. I started doing that because it just felt better and because I felt I could control the speed of the ball better this way. But I would guess that different people will use those techniques that work best for them and, many may change techniques several times through the years.

Erik, you actually just perfectly described what I do. I've always felt comfortable with my old putter and I just measured it. Turns out it is a 35" I grip down about an Inch or 2 on it also. So I think the length is good and I'll stick with the same length.

You also have to throw lie angle into the mix. For example: a 34 inch putter with two degrees upright lie angle will in effect be a 35 or 35.5 inch putter if you dont address it properly, and vise versa in flat lie angles.

I'm 6'2", and I feel comfortable with a 33" putter. I have a couple 35's and I simply choke down on them.

Just seems to be a comfort thing for me I guess.

i'm 6'1"and my bro is 6'7" so i expect to grow another few inches at least. i think my putter is 35" but i'm not sure. often i choke a little down the grip on shorter putts to get a better feel. As iacas said many people tall or short use different length putters, so my advice would be to try out different lengths and pick the one you're most comfortable with

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
