Budget Driver

So I just got a budget drive because I am just starting and didn't want to pay a bunch for one. I was just wondeirng it said that it was a 10.5degree, but when i put it up to my brothers 10 degree it looks like it has way more loft. I used a protractor and my brothers was around 10. I know that is not the most accurate way to measure loft but mine was around 13. Is it because its a really budget driver? I don't have a problem hitting it so I am not worried but I was just wondering.

If you are just beginning you will probably be thankful that the driver is actuallly 13° loft. It will help you get a decent launch angle off the tee and the higher loft will reduce the tendency to slice a bit.

Most mid-handicap and higher golfers should probably use a higher lofted driver. I play an 11.5° driver myself.

Lots of drivers differ from their stated loft. This isn't a problem in the process: it's because some people feel compelled to play less loft than they should use in a driver, and the company wants to avoid the blame that comes with bad shots.

Most mid-handicap and higher golfers should probably use a higher lofted driver. I play an 11.5° driver myself.

It's not limited to mid-handicappers. Nick Watney - he's a bit better than a mid-handicapper - uses an 11.5 driver, according to a recent Golf Digest.

true; they do it on purpose. Even to some tour pros.

i probably would agree with this when my father bought me a 9.5* r7 460 off ebay and i couldn't hit it past 150m because it was so low. however my swing has quickened and on monday i hit 11 of 14 fairways with the 3 others being at least in the first cut of rough. i hit at least 4 230m plus drives, which is huge for me(only 16). i shot a 90 and only my iron play and putting letting me down.

the moral of the story: get fitted on a launch monitor, maybe(if only starting) get a degree less loft and get used to the club and improve with it.

      Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.

      As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
