Santa brought me a Galaxy watch 5 for Christmas and I'd love to use it on the golf course this year!  I thought asking the Sand Trap community would save me a lot of trial and error time. Do any of you have a golf watch app you would recommend with Wear OS compatibility? Ideally looking for scoring, accurate distances.....aerial map view and standalone mode would be cool too, but not required. Oh, and hopefully an option that doesn't cost a fortune.

I can't help you, sorry. Just an Apple Watch here.

I tried several apps with my Galaxy watch. Hole19 and Golf Pad worked pretty well and gave accurate distances. Pricing is around $30-40/yr I believe, Hole19 is a bit more expensive.

Recently I switched to another app, 15th Club. Two things I like about it - 1) it gives aerial map on the watch in addition to distances, 2) it's free. Distances seems to be accurate and it has all the courses I play. I'm surprised at how useful the maps on the watch are, considering it's a small screen. I think they have Apple Watch compatbility too, though I didn't check, being a Samsung user.

Good luck! Please post what you end up using.

I have a Galaxy watch and Galaxy phone and I've been using MyRoundPro from Taylormade for the last 3 years now and it's been solid.

GPS shows up on your watch to the front middle and back of the green, and you simply just rotate the bezel (or swipe I'm assuming if your watch doesnt have a bezel) to select your club, and then hit the shot. It then maps out your entire round and gives you strokes gained data.

I go back in on my phone after the round and adjust the hole location as well as the putt lengths. I simply write down the length of my first putt on the scorecard and then adjust on the app as needed after the round.

The one thing this doesn't have is aerial views on the watch, but you can get the aerial view of a hole/your location on the hole from your phone within the app

I'd be happy to answer any other questions you might have about it.

I do wish it had distances to cover bunkers or hazards like some other GPS watches I've seen but when those situations arise I just use my rangefinder so not a big deal.

Thanks for sharing your suggestions! With some unusual sunshine here this time of year, I ended up checking out a few of your recommendations.

Smartwatch use for Golf Pad requires a premium upgrade. They do offer a free trial to check it out before committing. I thought the watch display was clean, organized, accurate distances, scoring, shot-tracking. No aerial maps on the watch with this one, but maps are available on the phone.

I tried the My TaylorMade On Course app, but unfortunately I had issues getting the GPS distances to work. I reached out to support to get this fixed, so I'll update if I can get this working properly.

15th club apps on both phones and watches are free, and available on Android and iPhone. The watch display here was also very nice, but in a completely different way. Interactive aerial maps on the watch are the default view, which is actually pretty cool! You can change to just distances displayed if you choose. Accurate distances, scoring seemed pretty straight forward, but no shot tracking with this one.

Both 15th Club and GP have the ability to use the watch app independently from the phone. I've never used aerial maps on the watch before, so this is new to me. As kris0 mentioned, I was surprised how useful this was, specifically for hazards, bunkers or forced carries. Since it's free I'm going to continue using 15th club to see if aerial maps is my visual preference.

I attached a couple pics of the watch displays.

    • Day 37, June 10.  Today was primarily WFH, so I had several practice sessions (indoors, off a mat, into the net).  At least one each of U, 9, and 6-iron full swings with the usual priority.   I also tried a few times a putting type stroke with my 4H, as something I should probably learn how to hit (and what it does), but the mechanical shot at home off a mat doesn't tell me much of what it's doing.  That's something I should probably try on a real green, not during a round until I've tried it.
    • Day 10 (10 Jun 26) - Played in the midweek shootout at my home course - on aerated and sanded greens - day of trying to figure tempo to get the best roll on the greens.  Approach game was decently solid as was shots off the tee.
    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
