A tweet by Erik caught my attention the other day. This particular tweet was regarding early extending in the backswing, I suffer hugely from this issue.

The Tweet is as follows:

As previously mentioned I suffer from this swing flaw, the result is that the hosel comes into play (a lot).

Has anyone had any luck fixing there early early extension? If so please share your wisdom.

EE often begins at setup.

What's your pattern? EE during the backswing? Pivot stall/EE on the downswing?

Check that out as a starting point.

I do early extend in the backswing.

To date I've struggled to keep posture by feeling like I'm keeping my butt up against the wall. The remedy may well be what you recommended above, I definitely do not keep my hips over the balls of my feet, they are way behind me. Thanks for the reply.

A drill might be to set up, with out a club, with your butt against a wall. And feel the wall for the entirety of the backswing, maybe even feel yourself pushing into the wall a little bit. If you have a stand bag, you can set it up behind you for reference and still hit shots at the range.

If you’re handy, make one of these

I made one it’s a slightly different design. These work great because they are out of the way and you can feel yourself pushing them back in the backswing.

    • My rule of thumb is a PW for everything from 100 yards in except specialty shots like a flop or a low runner.  I find it easier to eyeball it for distance and swing on feel for the distance I need to hit

    • Circumstances led me to being off golf for almost a year.  Finally played a tournament two weeks ago, without touching the clubs and having to use my old set which had been passed down to dad.  Shot in the 90's with multiple bad holes.  Another tournament today and decided to play.  Much better round.  3 triples, 7 bogeys and 8 pars.  Two of those triples were courtesy of an OB and one was thanks to bad shots.  But overall much happier than 2 weeks ago.  Even managed to get runner-up in open stableford.  If those three triples had all been bogeys would even have been in contention for the open
