My Swing (Bogey2Better)

Recommended Posts

(edited)

I've been Playing Golf for: 10 Years off and on
My current handicap index or average score is: mid-80’s
My typical ball flight is: med-high
The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: fade/slice

I’m feeling a bit lost on my swing and would appreciate any insight. These were not my best swings as I was uncomfortable the whole time at this indoor place with a simulator. That being said here is a bit of background:

Historically I’ve been a bit upper body dominant. A little over the top but have worked on it and can generally hit my irons pretty straight. That being said I’ve also generally been pretty steep and consistently hit out of the toe. Last fall I worked with an instructor a bit. He was helping me get a proper hip turn and weight shift (had me doing the step drill). He also had me hitting half shots or punch shots. I was making some progress and then took a few months off during winter/holidays. As I’m practicing again I’m trying to work on the step drill and my setup to improve my swing. Some days I do the step drill and it is effortless power and center contact that makes the ball feel like a marshmallow. But it’s not consistent. I recently noticed that I stand too close to the ball with my arms hanging down inside the shoulder socket and almost touching my body. I tried to set up with my arms hanging straight down tonight hoping I could shallow my swing a bit. I think my problem still lies in my shoulder and hip turn that leads to early extension. Any thoughts?

I think it's a good motion, and for good players as you appear to be… proper/good camera angles and high-speed video is super important, as is an understanding not of their flaws (real or perceived), but of what kinds of shots they're hitting.

    • Chirp, chirp, … it took several rounds and finally I started making a few birdies. One specific par 5 on the course is my go-to hole for hitting birdies regularly.
    • Day 73: 6/4/23 Backswing practice t o promote full extension and width instead of narrowing my arms. Trying to promote consistency.
    • So Friday I went to East Lansing, Michigan to play Forest Akers West with my brother.... well we get there and they had an outing that morning and my brother is like wait, i have the confirmation email right here....  ( they scheduled ) it for saturday lol..    So we ended up playing Forest Akers East and College Field.     Now Akers East for the $, i thought was nice, still a bit challenging, but not terribly hard...   my swing was wonky all day long so that didn't help at all.    And I shot a even 100 lol ( had 3 lost balls too).    my brother being the punk that he is, shot an 81 so off to College Field , and everyone knows that Friday was hotter than the devils sauna..    And a few Long Drink beer's later and we are both cooled off and refreshed...  the course is nice!!  kinda open, but still had challenges and houses lined the course, so there was OB everywhere.    I ended up shooting a 95 ( had another 3 lost balls )      Oh and at the turn the Ranger at College Field was handing out cooling towels to take with you on the back 9.   which was nice, because we'd just dip them in our ice bag to keep the towels cold.
