Hello everyone. I am a 31 year old that recently wants to get back into golfing. A little on my background.

When I was 11-12 years old my uncle gave me his old set of right handed clubs to use for junior golf that I was going to be signing up for. I played/play hockey left handed, bat and throw left handed, and write right handed. I used the clubs because they were free, and really wanted to try golf. Fast forward 19 years, and I would say I MAYBE play 3-5 times a year. I understand that I lack a lot of practice throughout those years, but that’s what brings me to my question. If I’m looking at getting a lot better, and possibly getting a membership next year at my local club, would it make sense for me to switch and learn with what I would consider my more dominant hand? Or will the 19 years of swinging right handed make me to far gone where I should just stick with the ones I have? Thanks! And I’ll answer anymore questions you guys and gals have if I left anything out.

Quick add, golfed with a buddy of mine last night and scored 54 on the front 9. Quit keeping score on the back and just took pointers to try and actually hit the ball good.

There are several schools of thought here. Or, two, really.

Many think your dominant hand (i.e. the one you use to do most things) should be the lead hand. For a righty golfer, that's your left hand.

That said, if you played a lot of other sports lefty… possibly, you're better off going that route.

You may also have a lot more power left handed since playing baseball and hockey that way. I would say grab a driver and 6 iron from a used sporting goods store for short money and try left handed.
