I have too many clubs, and need help to decide which are the least needed clubs in my bag.

I'm about a bogey golfer...mainly because my short game really, really sucks...I'll lose almost 10 strokes a round from skulling my greenside chips. My full swing iron play is pretty solid though.

My bag:

Titleist 905R
Titleist 980F 15 degree
Titleist 980F 19 degree
Taylor Made Rescue 19 degree
Titleist 695CB 3-PW irons
Vokey 50, 54, 58 degree
PUtter

So...2 clubs gotta go...or at least stay out of the bag per round.

I'm thinking 3 iron and 50 degree wedge.

What do you guys think?

I was actually thinking the exact same, a 3 iron is hard to hit and usually you wont need it. Im pretty sure a PW is 47* so its almost close to a 50* if you happen to get any case where you need the 50 just use a PW.

I would suggest dropping the 19* fairway wood and the three iron. With the 19* hybrid in there, you basically get the best of both worlds (FW/Iron) and most people aren't looking to hit a 5W (19*) or a 3 Iron to an exact yardage, they are just looking to hit out there. Keep the wedge if your short game isn't great, it's useful to have an extra club in that area.

Agreed completely, those would be the 2 for me too...

Sometimes short game shots get overly complex with too many club options. For me, it's like staring in the fridge waiting for something to pop out at me when I'm hungry. Taking that wedge out may help just along those lines.

That being said I'd still drag the 3 iron along in the trunk for those windy days, I just mine regripped so I can do the same.

Nice day= 3 iron hybrid
Windy day = standard 3 iron

Actually, the PW is 46*...that's why I got the 4* increments in my wedges...probably doesn't make much difference though.

All, Thanks for the suggestions! I think my "standard" will be to leave my 3 iron and 50* in my trunk. On days when I feel I'm striking the clubs really well...maybe I'll swtich the 3* iron and Rescue club, and on the days when I'm striking poorly, I'll leave the 3 wood and the 3 iron at home...or better yet, I'll stay at home! Thanks again!

    • An you still took several minutes to write several posts and talk to sound engineers. I appreciate that you did!  So they basically tell you is possible but you need to be very restrictive. The same thing I found on my research.  Temperature: is not going to change much between swing A and swing B. Distance of max club head: even the PRGR take the fastest speed recorded, not the speed at the ball. But this could be diminish by swinging several times each swing and average the results.  Angles: also PRGR returns less speed swinging on a certain degree.  Clubface orientation: it is also an issue with launch monitors that are not reading the center of the mass of the club. You can have a lot more club speed if your face rotation is higher and your lunch monitor is reading the toe of the club. "Other stuff in the room": are the same from swing A to B, or you can just swing naked! haha  This is the main idea, I have a PRGR and Skytrak. There are plenty of people, more here in Argentina, that can't afford a launch monitor. Also wanted to share the idea and let it be challenged by others. I don't mind been wrong, is part of experimenting.  I did and all the swings were close to 85 dbs, me swinging at 90 m/h. But I don't mind doing a proper test later in the afternoon writing down the results. I need to find and app that also have frequencies in order to test both.
    • Always kinda looked that way. They're pretty standard length… he's a tall dude though.
    • Now it's not too early.  Strong US start - 5 pairings out now. Is it just me?  or does Tony Finau's clubs look just too short for him?
