Effect of Wet Green and Wet Ball and Wet Club Face With a Bump N Run

Been trying to sharpen up distance control this year from 40 yards and in. Had a nice round going yesterday until a 5min shower of rain passed over us. Up to that point my bump and run were going the distances I have practiced them at ( always dry when I practice ) with little to no ground conditions changed with the rain, just the grass, ball and club face now wet, what was going 40 yards for me for the shots I needed up to that point were now going 50 yards plus for very similar lies, and swing length. So trying to figure out why I hit most/all my bump n run shots longer than required after the rain. Guess I will need to go practice bump n run in the rain but my theory is that the ball checks up lot less in wet conditions, firstly because I get less back spin on the ball because of wet ball and wet club face and secondly, when ball lands it will not check as much because the slippery surface even if it did have as much back spin on it as it would have if ball and club were both dry.  The amount of rain it made did absolutely nothing to make the greens softer.  Any thoughts appreciated

It sounds like you have a handle on it. Adaptability and the ability to read the lie and the conditions are a big part of playing golf. It sounds like you might be doing things a little too formulaically in your practice, and should use those things to establish a baseline of sorts, and play around in that space rather than looking for everything to be exactly as practiced.

Imagination isn't a bad thing.

    • I'm going to not say anything about this one for awhile. Curious to hear y'all's thoughts on it…
    • Kevin, it didn't look like a joke at all, and even if it was… what's funny about it? They're gatekeeping. Sure, you can think that golf is best enjoyed while walking, but at the end of the day, I think both of those people would rather those people be playing golf than not, regardless of whether they're in a cart or walking.
    • Not a fan of calling people out for stuff like that. I generally like to walk, but ... I have always used a cart the first time I played a course.  If it's easily walkable, then maybe the next time I'll walk it. But first time out, too many variables that I don't know about where my shot might go (or roll or bounce) that a cart is nice. Also depends on the "traffic." If it's going to be 5.5 hours, that gets tiring just standing around that long--sometimes I don't need a cart for the walking distance, but rather for a place to sit around for the extra hours out on the course. (Yeah, I could put a seat on my Clicgear, but I haven't.) Final factor--temperature and humidity. I have on occasion found myself exceeding my physical heat tolerance limits at my home course and now will use a cart in temperatures that I would walk when I was 10 years younger.
    • There wasn't any indication from either of those tweets that indicated they were jokes. Especially not based on subsequent replies on the topic.
    • Day 151 (30 Sep 24) -  Got in some work in the backyard working with 9-7-6 irons.  Shot setup - long target back lines to immediate target line start point - then setting up my alignment from there.  Having had the crud the past couple of days really cut down on the energy level so it was struggle to stay smooth thru the swing.  Hoping for a more solid day tomorrow.
