It seems like a TON of people are jumping on the LAB putter bandwagon (pros included). Can someone explain in layman’s term the difference between their lie angle balanced tech vs Edel’s torque balanced tech? From the people I’ve talked to that have tried LAB, they either love them or hate them.

I’ll be sticking with my counter balanced Edel because I can’t aim anything else anywhere close to square but am just curious.

The differences? Well, one is spelled with a q in it, and the other isn't. Plus a few other characters are different.

But, seriously though… meh. I think they're both bogus.

I was listening to a podcast the other day with Jackson Koivun and the host joked about how guys who can't putt would switch putters all the time and, eventually, just end up in a LAB because that's like the last resort. He wasn't saying that they end up there because they work, they just end up there after nothing else works, and then many will almost start the process all over again.

The forces and torques in putting are incredibly small, and overcome by just holding the putter off the ground. They can matter slightly to FEEL, but the most important things in a putter are how you align it and how you perceive your distance control with it.

I don't think the LAB does either of those things better or worse than any other flat piece of (usually) metal on the end of a shaft.

The Revealer is a carnival trick, and the physics and science are pretty simple and pretty clear.

Yep, they sound like just marketing jargon to me.

I think feel matters a lot. Some might like the softer insert; others might hate it, and it could affect their distance control. Maybe putters with higher MOI could have better distance control on off-center strikes, similar to other clubs. Maybe they are slightly less accurate from a dispersion because off-center hits are off-center hits. Usually, higher MOI clubs it is hard to tell when you really hit one centered. I rather have the feedback if I mishit my putt on the initials on my putter than the sweet spot.  🤣

#1 can you aim it
#2 does the weighting and feel allow you to have good distance control

I agree that bad putters tend to search for quick solutions, and a putter change is the fastest. I know a guy who has had the same putter (old bullseye one) forever. He never found a new putter that outperformed it. He is a pretty good putter to begin with.

    • Agreed on the PT. Unlikely you have a serious injury. Most likely it's just from being tight/out of shape and then doing something athletic. Been there a million times, trust me. PT, light gym work 40 minutes a day really adds up over time. Plus I couldn't do what I do without the aid of my massage gun.  Dry needling can help unlock a lot of this as well, so don't forget about this option for some point down the road.   PS- For the last few years I've seen a DPT twice a week. It's expensive, but I've learned a few things: one of them is his mobilizations of tight areas around my back and pelvis has really helped. Seeing an actual therapist regularly for a few months is a big time advantage. Our bodies are like cars in that we do need to maintain them to a certain extent X amount of the time. I know you know all this already, I'm just reiterating stuff. Hope you're feeling better soon!
    • So, I haven't quit ...just taking a little winter siesta. I have been doing some Stack training and a little office carpet putting with the Pelz Putting Tutor. I'll see where I am in another 6 weeks or so and then maybe look for some instruction.
    • I think it is probably my lack of motivation to work out the past 8 months. I could tell it was starting to act up a bit. Like, one day I was getting some micro-spasms. Bowling just tipped it over the edge.  Its not the worst it has been. Moving around helps out. I just need to do some PT.
    • Day 52: 2/3/2025 I actually forgot to post yesterday even though I did some good stuff. That's my second miss since the streak started, but I think by the rules I'm okay.  Today I got to the range and worked my way through the bag. The range was crowded so I wasn't able to grab any video, maybe tomorrow. I'd like to send some to Yoda as I have another lesson with him the end of next week.  I spent a little bit of extra time with my new PXG Mini-driver.... I like it.
    • Dude, I'm sorry. That sucks.
