So, I'm getting better with my shots 100 yards in, mainly due to the fact that I leave my 56 degree in the bag now unless I'm in the sand and only use a PW for anything 100 yards and in. My problem is within the 20-50 yard range. I've become proficient with the bump and run and short chips, but now that the greens are firming up, I have issues getting the ball to stop due to trajectory.

I'm thinking about picking up a 50 degree and playing the shots with the same swing as my PW, but the idea being the increased loft will help me stop the ball better. Is my logic off, would I be better served with a 52 degree in this situation?

What type of lie are you playing from? I ask because I struggled with that distance, too. The reason, for me, was feeling that I had to hit a certain club instead of playing what the shot called for. From that range, 25-50 yards, I use the following:

1) Fairway-60*LW
2) Rough-51* GW. It has six degrees of bounce. I choke down and take a 7:30, swing.
3) 9I- If I want to run it, a bit, from 25-30 yards, I'll hit it like a putt. (Golf Digest tip) Works really, well.

Treat the shot according to the lie and conditions of the course. That's what worked best for me. It might work for you, too.

    • Day 1: 2/26/2025: So, I'm starting over on this again.  My son brought home the mother of all flu bugs from school. It raged though our house and knocked me on my butt for about 3 days.  Now, that I think I'm clear of the death plague my son gave me. I was able to rise early this morning and get some nice mirror work in. I felt stiff like a board for the first few swings, but loosened up and was able to get at least 20 minutes of first robotic slow swings and then gradually more fluid swings.  My focus was on the timing and fluidity of my priority pieces.
    • I use a MagSafe connector on my tripod. Occasionally I use those clips.
    • Working on some swing videos. What are you guys having the best luck with as far as devices used to record the swing?  I have a tripod with a magnet that I stick my phone on but it is somewhat of a pain because I have to remove the cover on my phone and when I pull it off the magnet the tripod head changes and moves position. I was thinking something more like an ipad maybe. On a different style tripod and maybe even set it up to mirror to a tv.
