Yesterday, I made my first eagle (see awesome new bling at bottom of post), and since I hadn't yet made a better-than-par on a hole 11 yet this year, I updated the spreadsheet accordingly.

That's awesome, Congratulations!  Eagles are always fun to make.  For me they're getting rarer as I get older.  Make sure you write it down so you can remember it in detail in the future.

I saved the ball and wrote the details -- "my first eagle," course, hole number, and date on it.  Maybe I should write the yardage and the club too.

Knocked off 2 more this past Saturday. Including my second career hole in one at Furman University GC.

Hole #4 160 yards, 6H.

Only have two holes left in the Away Course Challenge. Which is very odd because I don't feel like I am striking it well this year at all. 🤷‍♂️

Very nice! Congrats on your 2nd hole in one.  I'm still hunting my first (3 close calls in my past)

Two away birdies today;  one was at hole 2, which I've already birdied this year (albeit at a different course) and one was at hole 6 (new to me for this year).

Another away birdie for me today, hole 4 at Navy in Cypress.  After opening 6-5-6 (double, bogey, bogey on a par-5), I hit driver, 8-iron to a few feet, and made the putt.

Funny, I thought I'd get my birdie on #4 for the year at Rancho Park, where hole 4 is a par-5 where, after a good drive and a good fairway wood, I'm hitting a wedge into the green, figured if I played it enough (and it used to be my home course) I'd birdie it eventually.  Instead, at the #3 handicap hole at Navy, there's a birdie.  Ringer score is now at -8 (six birdies and an eagle, have parred or better every hole number already).

Knocked off #8 (a tough one to get) today with a mini driver, a chipped 9I, and about a 25-footer in the eight holes I played tonight.

I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.

Had a good day today despite playing fewer than all 18 holes.

Left a birdie putt on 4 about two inches short. Birdied 5 to knock that one off the list. Birdied 7 without hitting the green. I'd birdied 8 last week. Birdied 12 after pull-hooking a tee shot into a tree that kicked out into the fairway about 60 yards back of where it should be, heel cutting a thin hybrid just barely over the ravine, and dropping a 90-yard wedge from a weird lie in the rough near the ravine to four feet. Had a good chance at birdie on 13. Hit a good drive on 15.

So, adding 5, 7, and 12 to the list.

    • Day 596 - 2026-05-20 Played ~14.5 holes today. Starting to get it together.

    • Day 16, May 20.  Today, in between Zoom meetings, I spent some time hitting balls in the golf room adjacent to my home office.  As of this writing, I've hit two dozen, all with a 6-iron, with the same slow swing and lifting arms emphasis of my last lesson.
    • I played on Monday at Rancho Park.  I missed the green with my second shot on the long par-4 11th and had 32 yards left to the pin from the rough.  I hit it to 3 feet (in one shot) but I proceeded to three-putt from there.  Just kidding, I made the putt for a par, gaining 0.81 on that hole (total, not with that putt).  But the pitch from 32 yards in the rough to 3 feet gained me 0.79 strokes, my highest gain on any single shot all day.  I think that's a decent way to decide what the shot of the day was for a round that was stroke play but without a competition going on, just out with friends. Other candidates for best shot of that round (both of these gained at least 0.5 strokes compared to 5 handicap) - a "chip" (using a putter) from light rough left of the #7 green, 12 yards from the pin (uphill then downhill, breaking) to under a foot.   And then again, at hole 13, from 18 yards from the pin in the fairway, putt uphill but fairly straight, to two feet.  Amazingly, none of my drives all day really stand out as great and only two as "very good."  Two also stand out as poor.  Yet, that one round, I lost 0.03 strokes driving compared to a 5 handicap baseline.  Small sample size but encouraging.
    • Yay, back at it! Just a short practice session in doors today. Somehow it is 30+ degrees cooler today than it was yesterday. Though, I am not sure I am in for 89 degrees!!!! I probably had heat exhaustion yesterday playing volleyball.  Just getting stretched out today. Getting some feel back. Mostly feeling like the club works down behind and then out to the right as I do my wrist stuff. Just need to do turn and hip stuff better to get a bit more right side forward at impact.
