I am a college student and just recently started playing golf again. I currently am hitting in the 90's and hopefully by the end of summer will be back down in the 80's. The set I am using now is just a $150 Wilson set but I am looking to get a custom fitted set in August. I have been saving up for a while now so money is not that big of an issue. I need help deciding between Callaway and Titleist. I have narrowed my options down to those two, but cannot decide. I cannot choose because from I have hit and heard they both are really good brands. I guess when it comes down to it I will choose the most forgiving. Anyone that can help my decision will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

-Note: I am looking to purchase a full set (maybe minus the driver)

What model clubs are you looking at... the new AP1 or 2's and the X-20's or X-20 Tours or X-Forged? Cleveland CG Gold or Red worth looking at too.
My Clubs: Callaway FT-i Tour LCG 9.5° w/ Matrix Ozik Xcon 6 stiff; Sonartec GS Tour 14° w/ Graphite Design Red Ice 70 stiff; Adams Idea Pro 2h(18°) & 3h(20°) w/ Aldila VS Proto 80 stiff; Adams Idea Pro Forged 4-PW w/ TT Black Gold stiff; Cleveland CG12 DSG RTG 52°-10° & 58°-10°; Odyssey...

If you're just getting back into it with a new set, i would say that the Titleist AP1s would be the way to go!

Well I have only researched the AP1 which of the AP's would you recommend for an average golfer?
And as for the Callaways probably the x20s they seemed more forgiving

The AP1's are more forgiving... the AP2's are geared more toward a 0-10 handicap golfer. If you plan on playing a lot and improving a lot the AP2's and X-20 Tours might be something you could grow into... if you want what's best for a bogey golfer... probably the AP1's or X-20's... I would just go hit both and see if you can tell the difference... if you hit both well, then maybe consider the better player iron... if not, then go with the more forgiving club.

The best research is always to just hit'em and see how it goes. Hit off grass if possible, but mats if you must.

    • Attempting to lift. Any better?
    • Day 82: mirror work again tonight. Working on the same shoulder down and roll and twist stuff. Going on vacation tomorrow and putting the clubs down, so new streak starts in about 10 days!
    • Day 44, June 17.  Today was some preliminary stretching, exploring what I'll want to set up as a regular routine (both while on vacation without clubs and when I'm back) (aside: this is part of an upcoming goal to stretch daily in a meaningful way, but I don't plan to count it as practice on days that I can meaningfully practice with a club)
    • Having a rough week. Went to the Dr. because I was really weak and could hardly swing my driver.  I take Propranolol 20 mg tablets twice a day. Seems like the Propranolol was driving my pulse down (low 50's).  So we cut the dosage in half and I started taking my blood pressure. It was a little high but pulse came up.   Then yesterday I raised it to 15 mg tab by taking it 3 times a day. Blood pressure 127 / 77 Pulse 75.  Heading out tomorrow morning for 18 holes.    I have my driver set at 10.5* but seem to have my swing speed to low and I can't get the lift on the ball I need.  I have not played this week in hopes I will have the strength to raise my swing speed. I may have to raise my loft to 12* . (I will take my driver wrench) tomorrow. (This Parkinson's is a pain in the butt.)  Will give you a report when I get back.    Retired Old Man, Terry
    • You still got to lift your arms. You basically just roll your wrist over in the 1st half of the backswing.
