I'm getting serious about taking video of my swing and all that. I'm looking to get a tripod that will do this but don't want to lug a mega-contraption to the range. I think I'm going to get this:

Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom

and the SLR version

I was debating between the SLR-Zoom and SLR but the Zoom version just holds up more weight, and I'm paranoid. I'll be using it to hold up my small Canon A620 and/or a Sony Mini-DV camcorder..you think it's overkill..and I should jsut get the SLR version?

ED: If this is not in the right area please do as you will.

I think I'm going to rig something up, but it'll just be a stake I can stick into the ground with a bolt on the end (I'll rig up a little something). I'll just shove it in the ground.

The GorillaPods are nice, but a stake you can just slide into your golf bag or something. It can double as a training aid, too.

Thats unfortunate you have to buy that, if it costs a bit of money.

I got one of those included in the box when I got my Video Camera. Not the exact same brand or anything. But it does the exact same.

It looks like the SLR version has a bit more manueverability at the top..decisions..decisions..

Trust me, the SLR version is more than good enough for a camcorder and especially a little A620. The bigger version is only there to accomodate huge lenses, which you don't have. You really don't need much for this job. I bet the pocket camera Gorilla Pod would do the trick.

Do you have a Gorillapod? Yes, I was also leaning toward the SLR version but just don't want to get it to regret it.

I have something similar to, but much smaller than, the Gorillapod. It works fine even with my biggish Canon S2IS.

    • Attempting to lift. Any better?
    • Day 82: mirror work again tonight. Working on the same shoulder down and roll and twist stuff. Going on vacation tomorrow and putting the clubs down, so new streak starts in about 10 days!
    • Day 44, June 17.  Today was some preliminary stretching, exploring what I'll want to set up as a regular routine (both while on vacation without clubs and when I'm back) (aside: this is part of an upcoming goal to stretch daily in a meaningful way, but I don't plan to count it as practice on days that I can meaningfully practice with a club)
    • Having a rough week. Went to the Dr. because I was really weak and could hardly swing my driver.  I take Propranolol 20 mg tablets twice a day. Seems like the Propranolol was driving my pulse down (low 50's).  So we cut the dosage in half and I started taking my blood pressure. It was a little high but pulse came up.   Then yesterday I raised it to 15 mg tab by taking it 3 times a day. Blood pressure 127 / 77 Pulse 75.  Heading out tomorrow morning for 18 holes.    I have my driver set at 10.5* but seem to have my swing speed to low and I can't get the lift on the ball I need.  I have not played this week in hopes I will have the strength to raise my swing speed. I may have to raise my loft to 12* . (I will take my driver wrench) tomorrow. (This Parkinson's is a pain in the butt.)  Will give you a report when I get back.    Retired Old Man, Terry
    • You still got to lift your arms. You basically just roll your wrist over in the 1st half of the backswing.
