What's the acceptable amount of time at the snackbar after the turn? Is it ok to let the next few groups pass? I've only been playing for 5 months and I'm still learning the etiquette of the game. Any opinion are appreciated!

Most courses require you to maintain your order at the turn, so the 30 minutes or so that it would take for a few groups to pass wouldn't be OK at those courses.

I'm a big fan of grab-and-run, and not waiting for something that has to be cooked. I also like courses that have the snack bar on the course instead of at the turn; some courses around here have them at the 7th tee, or the 12th tee. Usually before a long par-3 where, even if you're waving groups up, there's going to be a delay. Then I can grab a sandwich and eat some of it, hit my tee shot, and eat the rest before getting to my ball.

I've always wanted to know why go to the snack-bar anyway? Did you not eat enough before you went out to play? Does your bag not have room for a granola/candy bar or banana or bottle of water? Nothing steams me more than seeing a group head to the clubhouse after 9 and then come back and try to keep their spot in line..........

Let the next "few groups" pass? I sure don't want to play with you. Just do not have that much time. To play golf at its best you need a sense of urgency, not to rush, but ready to hit on as a primary purpose.

If you see the group behind you constantly waiting on the front nine. Let them pass at the turn.

I remember a few months ago, some people commented that they'd like to play with me, as it seemed (to them) that I carry a picnic with me when I go golfing. It's true, though: I do!

A very good point. This is a great place to let them through, if they're waiting on you and you weren't on the heels of the group ahead of you.

I dont feel its any problem to grab some lunch at the turn if your playing partners are up for it. Who cares what anyone behind you thinks if their not being affected by your decision. You're out there to enjoy yourself, not to pretend like you're playing in the Masters.

If I'm playing a scoring round, I actually play pretty fast. Takes me about 3 hours to play a full 18 on my home course.

I was just asking what the "norm" is, or what people consider appropriate. I have thought about maybe grabbing lunch at the turn when I play with my GF. She usually doesn't play all the holes and we play a really relaxed round of golf when we go. Especially out here in Vegas, where the heat can really be taxing. So it's nice to sit in the shade and have a drink or two.

Thanks for all the responses so far.

I'm personally an in and out guy at the turn. I usually just grab and drink and piece of candy or fruit and right out to the 10th. However, it seems to me that most of time things get clogged up on the 10th. People don't understand that taking a few extra minutes could cause havoc for many groups behind them.

You should ask at check-in what's the appropriate amount of time. This eliminates any hysteria from the group behind you.

Just don't do what I see. People park their cart on the tee and then go grab food. That is just plain rude.

I walk so it does not affect me but I imagine it's a huge inconvenience for those that ride.

If it's snacks and drinks you should get those in about 5 minutes. If you need real food you should order it by phone before you start the ninth hole. I don't think you should be taking a long break at the turn unless you've been playing a little slow and you want the group behind to pass. The most I do at the turn is take a quick bathroom break and get a fresh cup of ice water. We usually take food and drink but when we play the home course, we call my wife or kids and ask them to throw some food to us as we go past. I'm spoiled, I know.

To play golf at its best you need a sense of urgency, not to rush, but ready to hit on as a primary purpose.

Golf needs a 'rush hour', a period during the day where only fast golfers are allowed to play, enforced by a $100 prepaid fee confiscated on any round exceeding 3 1/2 hours.
