Unlike your 695 MB the new ZB are a blended set (hence the Z'B'), they progress from a slight cavity back in the long irons > through to blade in the short irons. i believe that the offset-change is minimal throughout > the forgiveness in the long irons comes from the CB.

hope this helps. i would keep the 695MBs

They also offer a ZM, which are muscle-backs, and I believe that the OP was talking about about the ZM's, not the ZB's. Sorry to the OP, but I don't know enough about either set of irons to help.

Here's what I play:

None whatsoever besides the MB short irons. Ive hit them alot and they feel identical to the 695's. I didnt notice much of an offset difference but maybe i wasnt looking closley enough. Id say if you want them and can comfortably afford them, pick em up.. I dont think the 695's will be conforming under the USGA's rumored groove ruling, so if it comes down you can have yourself covered in the case you like to play in bigger tournaments. If you dont play in a lot of tournaments, its really not going to matter.

THE WEAPONS CACHE..

Simple answer

If it aint broke, don't fix it!

If there is nothing wrong with your current irons why bother lookin for new ones? And concerning the new groove rule, am i right in thinking that unless you are a pro tour player, you have 10 year period in which to conform, ie, not something to worry about!

if you are a 9 handicap and play blades, I doubt you would tell the difference on the ZM vs. your 695's. I would look at the AP2's instead.

You should look at more game improvement irons instead of blades unless you really hit your irons well. I don't know too many golfers that are worse than a 2 or 3 that play blades anymore. They sure do look nice, but I've stuck with the CB's and haven't been disappointed. Good look at address and the forgiveness helps a ton.

The ZMs are a small evolutionary step in improving the 695.MB line. Unless you can upgrade from a used set of irons to a new set of irons for $100 or less, I wouldn't even consider upgrading at all.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
