my club had their demo day today the major reps there were titleist cobra callaway nike and mac gregor i have always been intregued by the sexy look of blades so i went to test them out i hit the callaway x forged nike cci forged and forged blades titleist zb forged and ap2 mac gregor blades and cobra pro cb when i took a swing with the mac gregor blades i was surprised to see the ball flying high and far of the club face and then i did it again and again it was truly amazing but then walking back to the bag i spoted the callaway x back prototype and quickly grabed it and it was the absoulute sweetest feeling club i have ever had the privelage of hitting but what truly surprising was the forgivness i was hitting 9/10 shots almost perfectly and the shots were rocketing of the face and that got me to thinking as i get older bigger stronger and better should i switch to a set of blade irons

Hit 'em if you can.

I'll never be able to I suspect. I find impact marks all over the face of my irons way too often.

I have buddies that hit the same spot every time on their irons...I suspect they'd get a lot out of the blades.

There is no doubt they look tons better at address and simply overall than other irons.

Here is a question related to this sort of. I have a set of really old Ram Gene Littler blades. Would it be stupid of me to use something more than thirty years old even if they are blades?

I love my blades too but I think the X100's they came with are too stiff for me. Because I can't work them like I used to be able to work other clubs...My buddy said that is probably due to the shafts being too stiff for me. I tend to agree.

I am learning fast that iron shaft selection is almost if not more important then what iron you get...

my first full set of irons where a set of nicholas blades when i was 14! then got a set of cavity backs on the advice of a pro saying i needed the forgiveness of them and blades wernt helping me! I hated them from the start but kept them and battled on thinking i will learn to love them but after six months they were still not performing. i cam across a set of 690MB's for £300 and jumped at them they are the best feeling irons i have ever tryed and look so nice in the bag and at adress! oh and i droped 10 shots off my handicap in 6 months! BLADES ROCK!!!

That was the longest sentence i've ever seen

I also tried some blades, didn't really like the X-Forged though. Couldn't hit that club at all. But my hands were all sweaty as well and my hands were slipping. ABSOLUTLY LOVED THE S58's!!

I just bought a complete set of these clubs at a garage sale. I've played them twice and really like them. I seem to equal my best scores at the course I play most often. Do you still have/play these clubs? I realize that you posted your comment here many years ago but I just joined as a member here so I thought I would try to get in touch with you.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
