I've been reading threads regarding which irons to buy, comparing irons, etc. I went through a lot of the different models and came to the conclusion that almost all of them look exactly alike. For example:

1) The new Cobra Pro MBs look exactly like the Taylormade RAC MBs.
2) The new Cobra Pro CBs look exactly like the Titleist 755s.
3) The Callaway X Forged looks like the Mizuno MP60.
4) The Nike Forged Blades look like Mizuno MP37.

There are obviously more but these also are made of almost identical steel and are almost identical in size. You can also get the same shafts. No shafts are exclusive to an iron.

Taking these factors/similarities into account, what differences do you look for? Is it a slightly larger sweet spot? Shaft upgrades that are free? Or are you brand loyal?

When I buy clubs I decide based on feel. They may look the same, but when you hit them some feel better then the rest. If they do not however I pick based on price, past experience with the brand, and what looks good in a bag.

I always have to mediate the battle between my ego and my pocket book. If there is a type of shot or condition you play in the beveled sole in Mizuno for example may be a preferance. You picked all better player forged clubs. Is there is less variance playing charactistics in this category and maybe more emphasis on feel and esthetics than cast clubs?

Well, the only reason I chose these were based on appearance, makeup (type of steel) and cast/forged. I'm sure there are plenty of cast irons that have heads that look exactly, alike. So that question would be posed, too.

My main point was trying to find out what golfers, when faced with these similarities, base their purchase.

    • Attempting to lift. Any better?
    • Day 82: mirror work again tonight. Working on the same shoulder down and roll and twist stuff. Going on vacation tomorrow and putting the clubs down, so new streak starts in about 10 days!
    • Day 44, June 17.  Today was some preliminary stretching, exploring what I'll want to set up as a regular routine (both while on vacation without clubs and when I'm back) (aside: this is part of an upcoming goal to stretch daily in a meaningful way, but I don't plan to count it as practice on days that I can meaningfully practice with a club)
    • Having a rough week. Went to the Dr. because I was really weak and could hardly swing my driver.  I take Propranolol 20 mg tablets twice a day. Seems like the Propranolol was driving my pulse down (low 50's).  So we cut the dosage in half and I started taking my blood pressure. It was a little high but pulse came up.   Then yesterday I raised it to 15 mg tab by taking it 3 times a day. Blood pressure 127 / 77 Pulse 75.  Heading out tomorrow morning for 18 holes.    I have my driver set at 10.5* but seem to have my swing speed to low and I can't get the lift on the ball I need.  I have not played this week in hopes I will have the strength to raise my swing speed. I may have to raise my loft to 12* . (I will take my driver wrench) tomorrow. (This Parkinson's is a pain in the butt.)  Will give you a report when I get back.    Retired Old Man, Terry
    • You still got to lift your arms. You basically just roll your wrist over in the 1st half of the backswing.
