In Mass probably Pine Hills in Plymouth, In NH The Shattuck in Jaffery, and in Maine Dunegrass in Old Orchard Beach. By Worcester and Springfield there are some good courses: Crumpin Fox, The Ranch, Blackstone National, Red Tail, Tacaunic, and Shaker Hills.

Shattuck Inn in Jaffrey, NH is not too far from you. That course is a must play (bring a bunch of balls you don't care about).

Portsmouth Country Club on the NH seacoast is one of the best in NH. Open to the public.

Manchester CC and Sunapee are probably the two nicest in NH, but both are private.

Eastman is a bit of a drive in NH, but a real cool mountain course. Owls Nest,

Stonebridge is not too far, gets a lot of good press, not my favorite though. I prefer Passaconway over Stonebridge. Both are about an 1 hr 15 min from Worcestor.

Overlook and Sky Meadow are both over the NH/MA border. Both are decent, Sky Meadow gets a little more hype.

Laconia, White Mountain, Country Club of New England are all nice as well.

A second recommendation for Crumpin Fox. Great course and reasonable green fee.

Steve

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

Yeah. I've heard that Blackstone National was a very nice course. Next year I'm trying out for the high school golf team, and some of the tournaments that they play at are at Blackstone.

You need a member invite.

There is another course, Newport National, that is decent, but nothing like Newport CC and will run you $100+ for the round.

I must recommend William J Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park in lovely Dorchester, MA. It has all the charm of a Donald Ross design, while still within walking distance of Blue Hill Ave, the Murder capital of New England. Expect a gallery of out-of-work locals at each hole bordering the street. You can even hear the lions roar in the Franklin Park zoo, which is right across the street.

It's also Mayor Menino's home course and still not a terrible buy, though more expensive than ponky.
