I've just bought a set of tour burners, so I'll be able to give you my opinion after some rounds with them.

My answer may not be the same as your though, especially if you don't end up with the exact same spec of clubs as me after fitting! The best thing is to go and try both and see what you like. Maybe try other clubs too, and let the results make the decision.

the tour burners look nice. what is the skill level on them? my dad's got the burner xd's which is listed in my sig which i use sometimes but they do have a lot of offset.

Driver: Taylormade R11 set to 8*
3 Wood: R9 15* Motore Stiff
Hybrid: 19° 909 H Voodoo
Irons: 4-PW AP2 Project X 5.5
52*, 60* Vokey SM Chrome

Putter: Odyssey XG #7

Ball: Titleist Pro V1x

The tour burners ahve some offset, but not as much as the XDs.

To give you an idea of skill, I play off 10, but I know there is at least 1 guy on the tour using them. Its on the TM website but I forget who it is.

So it seems they are quite versatile rather than aimed at 1 level of player.

i have hit both of them and the burners are more forgiving but the ap2's are a lot better feeling and more workable

surefire- did you hit both irons. I am leaning towards the tour burner irons. I dont want to fork over 1000 for the titlest. Let me know how you like them.

I did try both, but I didn't spend that much time with the AP2's mainly because like you, I wasn't really wanting to spend that much.

From what I did hit of them, I thought they were good, but not good enough to justify the extra spending, as I was able to hit both clubs just as well. I'd agree that the tour burners are more forgiving, but you can still work the ball with them as well. If theres anything you specifically you want to know just ask. Will you be getting them custom fit?

I will be gettting them custom fit at golfsmith. I will be getting this weekend hopefully in time to play a round or two.

Did you get to play with these irons over the weekend? I am also considering getting a set of the Tour Burners, right now I have the OS-2's.

I will have them this week. I will post what i think of them on sunday. Sure fire has a set and may have played a round or two with them. I am waiting for feedback from him.

Mine just came in saturday and i played a round with them sunday. I couldn't be happier with my purchase, but i suppose they aren't for everyone. I would go to your local range if they have demo carts and try the clubs out your thinking about.

I have now played a few times with mine, and I am very happy with them.

They are pretty forgiving, but I was still able to work the ball with them.
The only thing I would change from a personal point of view is that I get quite a high ball flight from them. In most cases this is ok, but sometimes I play courses where the wind can get up and a lower ball trajectory can be usefull.

Other than that I would definately recommend them. I also think they are a club that will suit all types of player, so you could get them as a higher handicap, and still be happy with them as a single figure player. If you went with the XD once you got better you'd probably want to change.

Not long untill you get yours, let me know how you go.

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a set of these and glad I found this thread. I've tried the tour burners with graphite shafts and really like the way they feel, but have not been able to find much in the way of reviews, etc.

Thanks for your opinions.... it helps take some of the hesitation out of the golf club gauntlet.

I played 2 rounds with them today and love them. The feel was great and mishits didtn go crazy. It also helped that I tied my best score with these clubs using them 2wice. I am happy with the clubs and do recomend them. The only thing is that i didnt get fit for them because the guy at Golfsmith said he didnt recomend me getting fit yet because I am a 19 handicap and he said as I get better my swing will change. Was this a good idea? Let me know...

third round now with this set of clubs. I didnt really hit the ball flush all day on important shots (small tweak i need to fix) and just to show you the forgiveness and playability. I had a slightly thin shot (by the way it felt off the club when i hit it, it was very very slight) and it deffinately wasnt in the center of my club face, on a 200 yard par 3 with my 4 iron, and i landed it with a draw 10 feet from the pin on the green with very little release.

Love the clubs, get them custom fit, and its a great buy.

ps. Kenny perry uses them and look whats happened with him recently!

Thats true, but remember, Tour pros can change ANY of their club on any day of the tourney, depending on the conditions, how they are swinging, of how they want the ball to fly.

Here's what I play:

Titleist 907 D2 10.5* UST ProForce V2 76-S | Titleist 906F4 18.5* Aldila VS Proto "By You" 80-S | Titleist 585H 21* Aldila VS Proto "By You" 80-S | Titleist ZB 4-PW TTDG S300 | Bob Vokey Spin Milled Oil Can 54.10 | Bob Vokey Spin Milled Oil Can 60.08 | Scotty Cameron Red X5 33" |

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
