Is it possible to have only 26 putts for 18 holes with a 3 putt, a 4 putt and no chip ins? It is...

I had a really odd round today, didn't hit very many greens (seven) but got up and down from all over the place and holed everything that I looked at pretty much. The 4 putt entailed some pigheaded "they're all straight if you hit them hard enough" green reading and it was dreadful and the 3 putt was the result of leaving the ball on the green in a place above the hole where it shouldn't have been. Give me those aberrations as 2 putts and it would have been a hell of a putting round.

If you hit 7 greens you must have made right at 7 birdies to come in with 26 putts. Nice.

26 putts is fantastic however if you only hit 7 greens, you probably would have chipped most of those other times onto the green. so by hitting less greens, you are not having as many putts. for example if you hit 12/18 greens you would have 5 more putts. dont wanna rain on your parade but a stat such as putts per GIR seems to be a much more telling stat than total putts. good work though, 3 overpar, im still yet to break 80

Well, if you were 10/11 in getting up and down.
It's extremely possible, and quite impressive.

Exactly, I agree with you 100%. The reason for my post however was to point out the absurdity of having 26 putts but still managing a 3 and a four jab!

At the course I was playing at, 7 GIR is fairly acceptable for me because the greens are absolutely miniscule. It's a bit hard hitting a lot of 6 and 7 irons and a few 4 irons in to greens where unless you get it inside of say 25 feet you are chipping. A lot of the greens that I missed I was only a few feet or so off the putting surface and had very straightforward chips, a lot of my chips finished inside a foot and none of them were much more than 3 or 4 feet. Since the beginning of the year I have been averaging 10.8 GIR. I have had a few rounds down at Mollymook and The Lakes in Sydney, both are very long, very difficult tracks with biggish greens where I have hit 13 or 14 GIR and hit the ball just ok nothing special, putted reasonably well but ended up having 32 or 33 putts for the round so I know exactly what you are saying.
