You're opening the face too much during the takeaway.

Then the fact that you go so far past parallel causes you to stand up at impact.

I have to aggre on your backswing going way to far, but impressive the control you keep with such a far back swing, wish i could have that control!

Yes you are taking it to far back but also... did you notice your club is head to the right of the target line at the apex of your backswing?

You are probably doing something funky with your wrists trying to stretch too far back... I should know... I do the same thing.

Who cares? It went straight! I don't know how long it went, or if it ended up fading right or hooking left because you hit it into the trees. But if you were to watch my swing you'd be horrified.

Maybe I should do that! Does that website cost anything?

Don't cost nuthin'!

The shot went straight, but it's tough to hit shots consistently like that when you have flaws in the golf swing. The Tour players are often thought to hit the ball so well because of hand/eye coordination and "talent", but in reality it's more proper technique than anything as they are utilizing the proper technique which makes it easier to return the club square at at impact (with a lot of clubhead speed) over trying to square up the club by manipulating it with the hands and wrists. Guys like Tiger or Fred Couples have great hand/eye coordination and "talent", but they also have almost impeccable mechanics which allows them to hit the ball so well. If they didn't have those mechanics, they probably wouldn't be on tour. Even a guy like Lee Trevino has parts in his swing that is common with almost all great ballstrikers and is the reason why Lee was one of the best ballstrikers the game has seen. With this swing, I wouldn't worry about the length of the backswing right now because I'd rather have too long of a swing than too short of a swing. Flexibility is paramount to good ballstriking and those who try to shorten their swing usually wind up eventually overdoing it and it hurts their ballstriking and distance. His spine angle rises because his hands are too low at address and it's pretty natural for a golfer to want to rise the spine throughout the swing. There's been countless golfers with swings past parallel who have kept their spine angle. So getting the hands higher at address and working on fighting the natural urge to rise the spine angle will help out with that. There's actually a lot of upside on this swing as the downswing path is almost perfect here and there's some pretty good flexibility. If he can correct his takeaway and backswing plane, that should get his downswing path perfect. Then if he can maintain the spine angle, he would be a helluva ballstriker. 3JACK

I added my thoughts at the video clip you linked. In summary I suggested a taller posture at address, and keeping your arms and chest moving in sync together.

You're opening the face too much during the takeaway.

Exactly what I would say.

Your clubhead is open a little too much, and you're going way too far past parallel as well. These problems are kind of intertwined with each other, and I think both might be helped a little if you just cocked your wrists a little less.

Imagine a line that goes from the ball and extends through your neck (so it's sitting on your shoulders). Let your shoulders rotate on this line throughout the back swing.

How are you're irons going, and are you using the same swing (or at least, attempting to) for them?

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
