I have been playing the TM Burner for about a year now and I still love this driver. I know there are some differences between last year's model and the new Tour Burner...such as the new one is more triangular in shape, has a slightly smaller head and a heavier shaft. Are there any other big diffrerences? Is the new one "hotter" as far as distance?

I believe that there is less draw bias in the Tour Burner. It is not a fade bias, just not as severe of a draw bias.

I think the only difference is that with a smaller head you get to "work" the ball better vs the 460cc regular burner

I am curious about this as well. I am looking to get a new driver this weekend and was hoping someone had hit both for a comparison.
My other thought was the G10 driver.

I can post a quick comparison. Obviously, this comparison is only for me and my swing mechanics. I have a TM Burner ('07 model). I was curious about the differences between it and the new Tour Burner. I have played three rounds with the Tour Burner (demo club from local golf shop). My swing speed is around 95mph, I have a smooth transition, and I use the Regular stock shaft in both models. I am now down to a 14.5 index and my irons are my strong point. The '07 Burner is STRAIGHT and LONG for me. I don't care about the ability to work the ball with my driver. With the Tour Burner I had a much higher ball flight (not as much roll as the Burner) and I had a fade bias to the flight as well. Not a bad slice, but a definite fade. I think that is the reason for less distance I was seeing with the Tour Burner as opposed to the '07 model.

Now, the 3-4 times I hit it on the screws, the Tour Burner was scary long. I have one hole on my home course that has a creek at 300 yds from the teebox. I have gotten within a couple of yds of this creek with my '07 Burner on a handful of occasions (maybe 10-15% of the time). Probably 30 yds of this was due to roll. Now, with the Tour Burner, on one of three times at that hole, I put it in the creek (with a very high ball flight - so not as much roll). The other two times I was off to the right (further right than I ever had been with the '07 burner) and shorter, but still in play.

For me and my swing, the '07 Burner is a better club. More forgiving and plenty long enough for me. I would rather be in the fairway more often than be occasionally longer, but more inconsistent. Someone with a more acccomplished and consistent driver swing than mine might very well feel the Tour Burner is much better for them. To each his own.

I have NEVER said to myself after any hole "Wow, I could have shot par on that hole had my drive been 10-15 yds longer." The '07 burner is plenty long and plenty straight for me to the point that I don't need to monkey with other drivers.

What's the clubhead size on the Tour Burner, 420cc? I found that I actually hit better with slightly smaller clubheads. With some 460cc's I feel like I can hit it anywhere on the face and it results in bad shots. If I have to concentrate and narrow the impact point to a specific place on the face of a smaller club I tend to get better results.

The Tour Burner is 450cc. Leaves room for a "new and improved" 460cc Tour Burner next year....

I prefer the Tour Burner. I'm driving pretty good with mine right now. A bit more consistent and longer on average than the other drivers I've used.

    • Day 65: did a stack session.
    • Day 272: 9/29/24 Putting through gates for about 30 minutes today.
    • Ok, that makes sense. I was trying to wrap my head around that concept when I was writing my post.
    • 78 today at Minnesott (36 front / 42 back) - a new first with an even par on the front.  A big day of up and downs for par.  Only 26 putts against 4 GIR and 5 nGIR.  Was a CPO (cart path only) day due to recent rains.  Overall game was on - until 18 where I was looking at having a first “no-sixes” and made a triple 7 (tee shot in the lake, 2nd tee in fairway, shot 4 approach to right of green pin high, shot 5 bogie on the green, long two putts for triple 7.  Still a solid round and new personal best.
    • I believe that 76 bpms is the tour average (or somewhere around that). I think that's from taking it back to impact. I'm not 100% sure of exactly how it works since a typical pendulum is already moving when it starts going back. The putter on the throughswing ideally would work pretty much exactly like a pendulum though. To get the exact same time period from starting the putter back to impact, you'll have to accelerate it a lot faster on a longer putt right at the beginning until it gets to the speed it needs to be to make the putter move the right distance. Probably all way too much to think about while actually hitting a putt, but bottom line is I agree entirely that a metronome is a good thing to use if you're working on your putting tempo. As to the split between backstroke and downstroke, the tour tempo lot said 2:1 is the ideal. 3:1 for full swing. 2:1 for short game and putting. Whenever I go on a SAM I am about 1.7:1 I think and I can't for the life of me get my backstroke to be slow enough to get it to 2:1. Ho hum. Last comment - if you do have a perfect pendulum putting stroke and you have the ball slightly forward of the center of your stance, then the putter should be just starting to rise again at impact and with the way that pendulum motion works, it should be very slightly decelerating at impact, which I believe someone may have suggested once 😛
