I have a set of r7 tp irons and wanted to know if I should get the r7 tp gap wedge and sand wedge or get something else? I have a Titleist 60 degree. Thanks for your input.

I prefer the set wedges unless they have large flanges, like the Ping G2 or G5. The i5 and i10 wedges look good (with the set) and you can open and close them to work shots. The playability of these wedges, to me, equals that of non set wedges. To me its what lays behind the ball and says to you, "you can do this". If your equipment doesn't instill confidence, it's over, without regard to who made it.... jmoc

There is no rule that your clubs all have to match. Id suggest just going to the local golf shop and trying a bunch of different wedges and going with what feels best to you.
I personally like Vokeys (I plan on buying a 56 degree Vokey in oilcan finish when I can afford it), but what feels best to me might not feel best to you.

I got the cg 14 set(see signature) they're a pretty forgiving wedge and have decent spin. But vokey's are supposed to be the shizzle

I've always played the gap wedge from my iron set... but I'm hitting the TaylorMade wedges really well. Since I just replaced my irons (same model, but new) I'll probably pick up the TM gap wedge instead. The rac TP wedges are great, worth checking out if you want to stick with the same brand.

I play the Adams Tom Watson set. They are $99 for all 3 wedges, and feel and play great. I used Clevelands before this. Clevelands I was able to put a little more spin on the ball, but not much.

Depends on exactly what you're looking for. I think separate wedges would be more versatile. I would suggest the taylormade tps. If you like your titleist, go for another one. I think they're great on chips and offer lots of spin but I just don't like the way they are for full shots and I prefer the feel of the taylormade.

I also use R7 TP irons. I found a good deal on ebay for a set of 3 RAC black wedges in 52/56 & 60. I see sets of the satin & chrome finish RAC wedges on ebay a lot also.

I like the TM products and have always liked the black finish on wedges.

Mizuno MP-T wedges are awesome. They are forged so they get that buttery soft feel, and they are just great looking clubs!

I'll second that you should at least try these out. I actually have one MP-T and one MP-R and to be totally honest, I've fallen head over heels in love with my MP-R. Loving that club like no other, ever.

I have mismatched wedges. I have a 60* callaway x tour lob wedge and a srixon WG-504 56* sandwedge. I am perfectly fine with it. I hit them both great and dont mind that they dont match.

I suggest just finding a wedge that you like weather it matches or not

It comes down to what feels best to you. Personally I use matching wedges because I believe(true or not) that they are giving me a consistent feel. If you have that same confidence with different models then I think that's all you can ask for.

I would go with what feels best. No two of my wedges are alike and I am happy with all of them.

IMO, it really depends on what you want to use it for. With the gap wedge, will you use it greenside, or just as another club out of the fairway? The sand wedge is usually a feel club so get what feels good and what you think you can hit the best from a variety of situations.

I prefer to use the 'aftermarket or specialty' wedges greenside, but prefer to hit approch shots with a 'normal' club. I am planning on getting a new set of irons soon and one of my selling points will be a set that has a 51 or 52 degree wedge that is the same as the other clubs. I will rarely use my gap wedge around the green so I would prefer something that is matched to my other clubs to get a more consistant feel for approach shots.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
