Sorry I don't have range footage, the camera is built into my laptop, so I figured it's better than nothing. My swing isn't much different with a ball in front of me, I try to discipline myself to swing the same at all times.

Ball flight problems:

The ball just goes left. It doesnt start straight and hook left, it starts left and keeps going straight. The divot can also prove that. It's like my body is facing left, but in fact everything is square toward the target, so I know my problem lies in my shoulders.

Both Face Views are with an 8 iron and are different swings.

Thanks!

I have a camcorder back home. When I visit home before returning to school I will grab it, but I figured this is better than nothing!

Man it looks like you're about to talk to "that" girl and your shoulders are nervous. Loosen them up a little bit at address, and take a TINY step back in your stance. Let your shoulders hang, or get that feeling.

At the top of your downswing, drop those bad boys just a little bit. Instead of your hands constantly being away from the ball, this lets them drive through and get under the ball while adding some power. Kinda similar to getting your hands through the strike zone in baseball.

So - at address, loosen your shoulders and let them hang (if that makes sense), and take a tiny step back. I mean an inch if that. At the top of your downswing, drop your shoulders AND rotate your hips to get under ANd drive through the ball. That should add some rhythm to it.

I think you hips are not turned fully in the backswing. Try stopping on the top of your backswing and try turning your hip and see if you are able to turn your hip further. Your shoulder turn looks good, and I think you are using more hands.

Does your swing on the video match your actual golf swing when you pull the ball?

just my 2 cents worth

So you mean rotate my hips further on the backswing? and yes the swings are similar to when it goes left

Rotate your hips sooner. It's gotta be a smooth transition. Ball flight and your "left" problem can be helped by dropping your shoulders while in downswing (rotating your hips will help your shoulders as well), and gives the clubhead a better path to impact.

Ball flight problems:

As far as your miss to the left I'd say there is a strong likelyhood that it is related to your back foot lifting so far off the ground before you get to impact (the lifting heel can shift your swing path to spin out to the left and reroute your downswing left of the target).

In comparison look at the position of the rear heel of the tour pros in the picture below:
The other noticeable issue in your swing is your lower spine being father away from the target then your upper spine at the top of swing (aka a reverse pivot or weight shift). That I suspect is connected to right hip being higher than your left hip at setup, the right hip being positioned over the center of your right foot while the left hip is inside the left foot at setup, and your upper spine (nose) being closer to the target then your lower spine (center of shorts). If you look at pros you will find the opposite positions at address.

This is confusing?

This is confusing?

To describe it another way when your heel lifts up it allows your right hip to move toward the ball and shift your hip alignment from pointing square to the target to pointing left of the target. The hips shifting alignment can also cause the upper body to shift alignment. With your alignment altered to the left so goes your swing path as well.

Keeping the heel low like the pros shown in the earlier post increases your chances of maintaining your body alignment, and in relation your swing path.

Ok appreciate the help. I didn't even realize I was picking it up before impact. I will make sure tommorow at the range to keep my heels in the ground until after impact.
