I seriously need to take my 4 iron out of my bag and already have my 3 iron out. Which hybrids or woods would best suit or is built to replace the 3 iron and 4 iron?

Or does the # match the iron? (i.e. - 3h=3 iron/ 4h=4iron, etc...)

Thanks.

These days 4 irons are often at 23 degree lofts and 5 irons are about 26 degree lofts. Players irons may have slightly weaker lofts.

Check out last year's Cobra DWS hybrids with the Aldila NV shaft. They're available at a discount.

The TaylorMade Burner Rescue hybrids just went on sale at GolfSmith. Both graphite and steel shaft are 129.99. I love mine. And yeah, the numbers correspond to what iron they are supposed to replace. Nickent and Adams have really good hybrids as well.

Great avatar CoolBreeze

Thank you sir!

Yeah, I can hit my long irons pretty well....but you can hit just about ANY shot with a hybrid. Especially helpful on long Par 3's, cause I hit them a bit longer than the corresponding iron, and they land much softer for me.

After hitting a couple of different hybrids (Cobra Baffler & Maxfli Crossbax) I went with the Maxfli Crossbax 24° 5 i with an Aldila VS PROTO-HY 80-S shaft. I just liked the feel of it better. Seemed to have a slightly heavier head and the shaft was more stable. And for $99.99.....I will probably end up getting another one if all goes well with this one.

If it doesn't seem to be what I'm looking for....I'll probably dig a little deeper into the hybrid pool. Can't wait to get to the range to hit this thing!

I picked up a 2008 Cobra baffler 3 hybrid last week, it was a new demo, that never got demoed. It took two trips to the range, but after that, it is SOOO easy to hit. I then picked up the 4 hybrid. And I agree, they are great off the tee for par 3's. They land really soft. Even the 3 only rolls about 10 feet on the green. At least for me, it feels more like a driver/wood when at the tee, and it makes me feel like I can swing at it harder. (Mind thing) Only thing I am wondering, is if I will be buying the 5 and 6 also.

I think you will enjoy your experience with your hybrid. Try the other lofts. They're easy to hit and infuse one with quite a bit of confidence at address. Good luck.

As always demo and get fitted before you buy. I'm a fan of the TM Burner 3 Wood/19 3H combination. Others I've tried are the Nickent 3DX/DX and the PING G10 series.

I just replaced my Driver with a TM Burner - probably will end up with TM Wood and Hybrid as the price is right now! $130 each new

In my Sun Mountain 3.5 light stand bag:

Hybrids: 3DX DC (17 degree)
Irons: Taylormade R7 (4-AW)SW: Vokey Spin Milled (56 degree)Putter: Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2 (coming soon)Balls: Pro V1 and NXT Tour

I am planning on putting a lot of money into my bag (new irons to fit and possibly some new woods/hybrids) in the off season (can't believe how close it is already... ). Going to finish the season out with the hybrid that I picked up this past weekend with the possiblity of picking up a longer (~20° or 21°) one before seasons end.

As of now, I thoroughly enjoy swinging the one I picked up. As many of the posts here said, it flies nice and high and lands so soft. Unbelieveable. I hit it at the range and was able to hit a nice 3-5 yd. draw, straight, cut.... and far more consistent than i could ever dream of hitting a 3 or 4 iron.

I think it's going to lend itself nicely to a part of my game that I've been struggling with. I played 47 holes this past weekend and any time I had an opportunity to hit it...I did. Unfortunately I wasn't into the range I need to be to hit it (should have been hittng 5wood on most and probably 3wood on others) but I was just enjoying hitting it.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
